I've got a 1955 Seamaster caliber 354 Bumper, a 1971 Constellation caliber 751, a 1971 Speedy Pro 145.022, and the 1940 26.5.3 posted earlier in another thread. The Speedmaster Professional was given to me by an old and elderly friend who decided he didn't want to pay for the service, nor did he want to remember to wind it (he's 93) He said that he remembers buying it in 1971 for $250.00. I'd expressed interest in the watch, and he gave it to me. I'd been making sure he had a reliable watch for a few years, and he was grateful. Other than a basic clean and lubricate, nothing else has been done. It's one of the prizes of my collection. Hope y'all like it...
$250 back in the day?! Damn! If I could magically go back in time , the one thing I would do would be stock up on watches
Nice Speedy, same price still in 1977; Heuer Carrera 110-511 $345 Omega Speedmaster $250 Posche Design (Orfina) $475 Rolex Oyster Cosmograph 6263 $500 Tudor Oyster Date Chronograph 7159 $270 http://chronomaddox.com/general/c_and_d/connoisseurs.html#Top
Understand that $20K a year was a good middle class salary back then. Take the effects of inflation and the 4:1 slide of US dollar value against Swiss Franc and $250 quickly becomes $4,000 plus. About the price of a new Speedmaster. https://www.alanfurman.com/shop-page/professional-manual-model-3873-50-31/ gatorcpa
Thanks for the welcome! Any ball-park idea of it's value? I'm not educated 'bout bezels and lugs 'n stuff...
Nice Speedy. With the 220-bezel it must be a '69 not a '71. This bezel was only fitted on a small production produced in q3 1970.
Yes, perfect match. I got a 145022-69 with a 220-bezel myself. Produced in august 1970 and purchased in 1971 as well. Even the straps are nearly identical[emoji2]
