Just inherited a great looking Speedmaster, not running but looks to be all there, will be sending to Omega for service soon. In the meantime I am of course curious about the watch as I have basically no information about it.

Copied the following #s off of it:

    On movement
    39207107

    On band
    172

    On inside of back
    176.0012
    Acier inoxydable
    Brevet 508925

Thanks in advance for any information, photos attached.

I will not send it to Omega. It could change some original components and it is expensive.
Look for a good and reliable wachmaker with vintage sensibility.
    Very nice watch.

How would I go about finding a good local watchmaker? Years ago I had a jeweler in Seattle tell me to switch the movement out of another very old Omega I own and I left the shop immediately.....I may have been 22 but I knew he was trying to scam me. I am now in northern California but not sure what is the best option for finding a reputable shop.

I understand your problem. I live in an area where 3-4 good and appasionate watchmakers work but you should fly over Atlantic Ocean (Tuscany).
In San Francisco there are some important vintage watch dealers, you can contact them or ask to the forum.

I was actually in Italy recently riding the Alps with my lovely bride but I suspect it will be a while until I am back. I do have a local jeweler I have dealt with that may be able to point me in the right direction if he isn't able to take care of it.....

So I did a bit more research and the watch is a Mark 4.5 not a IV as I previously thought (same body different movement). Anyway I recently took the watch to Precious Gems in Folsom after hearing good things and am awaiting its return with the proper crystal and a service for right around $700 total.
