A friend sold me his 2003 Datejust with silver tapestry dial that he bought new from a well-known national chain jewelry store. He was bored with it and never had it serviced. Exceptionally nice for 13/14 years old. Gave me a very fair deal. I subsequently gave it to my watch guy who did a full service with no polish, only ultrasound. I bought a handful of colorful bands on eBay for barely $20 each and gave the fresh new watch to my wife. Basically her new "fashion" watch. I like it so much, I almost kept it, but I slipped and told her I was doing it. So now it's hers. This replaces the Rolex Cellini quartz I bought her 20 years ago. So did I do Ok? Thoughts?
This watch belongs on a jubilee bracelet, or maybe a nice crocodile strap, see example. But, I prefer the one tone look of the jubilee with the silver dial. I'd ditch all of those colored bands for sure.
Great piece, I tried on one this weekend and it wore a bit small for me. Something about the Rolex look in this size came off more then a bit feminine for me and I was wearing a thin 34 mm when I walked into the store.
Yes she and I both like it, just showing it to the collective. Had a jubilee with it but she hated it so I sold it to a buddy. She likes the colored bands as it is more fun for her to switch around.
Agree on the non-contrast, it looks a little "off". Also, regarding the color straps, I'm sure that's unavoidable to a certain degree if it's being worn as a fashion accessory as opposed to a timekeeper. My wife likes the orange strap on her Cartier Basculante just as much as the watch itself.
Love the dial. Definitely prefer this to my stainless and gold. I also dislike the jubilee and think this would look great on a classy black leather strap. Well done though
The tapestry dial doesn't photo well, at least not with my iPhone, but looks great in person. She likes it as a "fashion" accessory, she's not really trying to use it as a classy accessory. So far she's very happy, so I guess I did ok. The fresh service really cleaned it up and made it fresh again.
Yep. Might as well have fun with it. She just switched it to green strap this morning. Getting good at making the switch.
Have one on one of my watches, it is great. Bought the pins to do hers, but have not notched the straps yet.
@speedy57 Here's an idea if you want to upgrade those leather straps, or add to the mix. The silver dial Rolex Datejust looks amazing on a Bulang & Sons "Classy Cognac" or "Lusso Elegante" hand-made leather strap. It will be money well spent and you'll definitely want to steal it away from your wife. __________ Instagram: @onthedial
