Just a question of the right equipment, a very dark sky, a great deal of time and plenty of patience.
I am lucky enough to have my own observatory approx. 90 miles north of Los Angeles and it provides me with
the dark sky I need and a respite from the world I work in.

Beautiful photo. Can you tell us what we're looking at? A nebula? Thanks for posting.

It is like a Renaissance painting of souls ascending to heaven. It is, frankly, beautiful.

As stated in the above post, it is called the Pillars of Creation or The Fingers of God. It is part of the Eagle Nebula located in the consellation Sagittarius.

Looks like two humpbacks and a great white breaching to me, but I always have fishing and the ocean on my mind.

I'm sure Scott, Jim, Kyle, and everyone else including Frank like it. ::rimshot::

How far is that scene away from us?
I've just been studying that fantastic photo and noticed left of centre an angel with wings, but wait it's got horns as well. Beelzebub perhaps?
