New style for tang buckles?

Hello everyone.

I noticed a different style tang buckle on the new Bond Seamaster's nato strap. It seems to have more relief and more interesting curves. I like it!

Does anyone know if this is a one off for the Bond Seamaster or whether this will be the new style from now on? Any information would be helpful.

I am more of a Speedmaster fan, but it would be great to get these buckles in 18mm and 16mm, as well as the nato strap, which I would guess to have a 20mm buckle in titanium.

Those kind of buckles always come with models that are released with the NATO or STRAP. Normal NATOs that you buy as an extra come with normal plain ones.

Do you mean that watches released on a NATO as the default strap always come with this style of tang buckle? I have seen the more vintage style tang buckle on the Speedy Tuesday NATOs but not this style.

Does anyone know if the Seamaster Commander's watch came with this style as well?

Photos posted above to show the difference with the standard tang buckles. The one on the Bond watch definitely has more character.

Well, it looks like even NATO straps that come as the default option such as with the Commander's watch has the standard tang buckle.

Being a dive watch NATO maybe that’s the reason for beefed up buckle ??

Isn't the Commander's watch a dive watch also? It is a Seamaster after all.

I dont think the seamaster was originally conceived as a dive watch.

I think it was envisioned like the oyster perpetual as a water proof/resistant watch.

Yes. Watches that come as standard with a NATO and do not come with an option of a bracelet, have a better buckle than the standard NATO does.

Sure, I agree that it probably was conceived as more of a dress watch than a dive watch based on what the early Seamasters look like, I seriously doubt that even Omega itself would consider the Seamaster to be anything less than a dive watch these days.

And we are talking about a modern day Seamaster when we are talking about the Commander's watch as well. Are we not?

Hmm, I see. I guess you mean to say that because the Seamaster Commander's watch comes with a NATO as well as a bracelet, the NATO is not equipped with the "fancy" buckle.

If that is the case, could you let us know what other watches come equipped with this fancy tang buckle other than this Ti Bond Seamaster watch?

Now that I read your statement again, it does not make sense. The Bond Ti watch comes with the choice of a millanaise bracelet OR a NATO. According to your statement, this Bond Ti Seamaster's NATO should also have come with a standard tang buckle, since it comes with a bracelet option.

I do like the look of the buckle in the OP.

Does anyone know the parts reference number for it?

You dont get both the nato and the bracelet though.

OK then. Do you know of any other Omega watch that comes with the same style buckle as the Bond Seamaster 300 NATO strap? One that comes with ONLY the NATO as the default strap? I am simply curious to know if Omega has a system for distinguishing the style of buckles as you say.

And what I would like to know most is how I can order these buckles separately for my Speedies.

There is no chance Omega is going to add that kind of buckle on a standard NATO. It would make it even more expensive that it already is. But i understand why they would put a better quality buckle like that on a watch they sell on the NATO only and at that price.

I don't want a NATO with this fancy buckle. I just want the buckle in different sizes (18mm & 16mm) so I can put them on different leather straps.

Anyway, I am going to ask an AD here in South Korea and see what they say.

It will most probably be available as a part just as the SS Apollo 11's bracelet is.

I agree that the Commander’s watch is a dive watch.

But i disagree that Omega itself would consider the Seamaster to be anything less than a dive watch these days. Aside from the 1948 (which harks back to the early models), just look at the current lineup in the Seamaster collection: there’s the Railmaster, the AquaTerra and the Bullhead, among others.

To get back to topic, nice observation on the buckle. There are some experts here who can find out if it can be available as a part to be ordered.
