So I’ve been lurking for about five years and can finally post my new Speedmaster. My first and only mechanical watch. Went with the iconic, classic, and simple Speedy Pro. Picked it up yesterday and had to leave it at an AD for sizing overnight. That was a long 24 hours! But, I’m Somebody now.

In the faceless age of the internet, there are trends in music, fashion, food... all obsessed with authenticity. Folks building an identity around products that claim some heritage or some link to this, that, or the other. I think, maybe, its supposed to make your beard more lush or your jeans more denim-y or something. Manliness by association.
But, man, the Speedmaster Professional is simply the real deal. It is cool beyond the definition of cool. It sets its' own standard.
Quick - think of a cool movie character. Did you think of Han Solo? And what does Han Solo do when he's first introduced in Star Wars? He brags. He brags about his ship and his skills, by proxy.
Yeah, he's cool, but you know who's really cool?
Jim Freakin' Rockford. A whole different kind of cool.
THAT's what the Speedmaster Pro is. The Jim Rockford of watches.

That’s why I chose the Speedy. It’s legit. Nuff said. If Tom Seleck’s mustache was a watch, it would be the Speedy.

 

Yep, old to...My first watch was a Movado. Now it just collects dust and would be given to he first friend or family member that were to ask for it.

You know, I hope, in a way, that makes the point even more. The old Carrera is another neat, understated but cool watch that says something about the wearer.
Other examples I'd say, to go off task a little, would be the Monaco vs the Monza, maybe the Submariner vs the GMT... Much as I'd like to have either of the first two, the second two are the really cool watches.

Okay, how 'bout this: The Speedmaster is the F4 Phantom of watches. Or the P47 to the P51.

If the Speedmaster were a woman, it'd be Madeline Kahn. Not the first person you'd think of as being hot, once upon a time, but -
