Loving the return to using Tantalum. Really makes a stand out watch from all the stainless watches on trend at present. I looked at the no date non chrono version recently and had unnatural thoughts about it.

The basic SMP is kind of busy and has a lot going on to begin with... then add two tone, a chrono, the contrasting bezel... it's just too much for my liking. Also its $20k.

wow I hadn’t spotted the price. Seems odd as the standard non chrono SMP in tantalum is 6k more than stainless so why is the chrono in tantalum so much more than its stainless brother. Odd pricing

In theory I like the idea of the return of tantalum as an interesting case material, especially the cool blue-grey tone that it has. I recollect that there were also some smaller AP Royal Oaks in tantalum back in the 1990s. But the new SMP chrono in tantalum is seriously massive. Fratello reports that it is 17mm thick. Definitely not going to fit under any normal shirt cuff...

Prefer the original for both size and value as wel considering now it's a steal. I thought the trend of bigger watches was coming to an end sadly not yet .

TiTanRAu .

I like this abbreviation/acronym; if I ever end up making a cartoon along the likes of He-Man,Thundercats or any cartoon that has a call or yell, I'm using this. Thundercats Ho? nah, TITAN-MEOW! I mean, -RAU! 😜

I like the looks but lug to lug of 51mm no can do. Not that I would be buying it anyway but at least I can use that as an excuse rather than admitting here in the open for everyone to know I can’t buy a 20k watch. I wouldn’t want everyone knowing that and talking behind my back

This is the watch that got it all started for me back in the 90's. Rose gold on titanium with a blue face. Very appealing combo to me. It's been Omegas for me from that point on. Great size and light weight.

Why not just get a Speedy Pro AND an SMPc and save (at least) $10,000?

Thanks so much. I get a lot of compliments on this watch. At the time I bought it in the 90's it was about $2400 used with box and papers, which was a lot for me at that time. Now it feels like I stole it. One of the great things about this watch is that a titanium brush for removing stray marks and a Dremel with their reddish brown polish for the rose gold bezel has this watch looking like it's new out of the box. That polish took a scratch riddled bezel and returned it to perfection. Just be careful to apply light pressure, do small areas, and keep the wheel moving. It did no harm to the crystal.

While taking a look at the Nekton model at the Omega Boutique, I decided to try on the 300M chrono for fun. They don't have the titanium model in yet so it was the regular black steel version.

It's a big watch to be sure but I was shocked at how it seemed to shrink on my wrist, and especially how lightweight it felt - on the bracelet I was expecting it to feel absolutely enormous but I could actually see myself wearing it potentially.

The ref. 2296.80 was the first Omega I remembered seeing and wanted dearly. It kind of hooked me on Omega watches, actually. When I was older, I ended up with a ref. 2225.80 that I later sold because it just different enough. Some time later, I found a ref. 2298.80 and I love that watch a lot as it takes me back to that time in my life. It turned out, however, that my first watch was a ref 145.022-69. The new watch looks lovely but well out of my price range.
