I received a new, from an authorized dealer, Omega Seamaster from my lovely wife for Christmas (we actually saved and picked it out together).

It is fully wound and loses 30+ seconds per day. I wear it all day and have even been manually winding to make sure it stays wound.

I was going to give it a few weeks to see if it improved, but it doesn’t seem right that it would be that far off.

    Thank you for your time,
    Steve

    Absolutely outside acceptable parameters

Whizz it back to the AD, sharpish…and politely point this out

Am sure they can replace swiftly

It’s a chronometer which means -5/+5 is the tolerance. As new it should be in that range.

I’d go to an Omega Boutique if one is available not an Authorized Dealer.

    Thank you for your responses.
The dealer confirms +6/-4 sec a day. They are sending it back to Omega.
It’ll take six weeks to get it back. Disappointing that this happened. Hopefully they’ll get it worked out.

6 weeks! If I understand well, you pick up a new watch at an AD, it is out of whack, they return it to the mothership and make you wait 6 weeks to have it back without offering any replacement or discount?

If it was me, I'd get a refund in full and tell them to stick this dud somewhere... What kind of customer service is this?

I’ll chat with them when I drop it off tomorrow morning.
I did get $700 off retail when we bought it. I’ll push for a replacement immediately and negotiate down to a store credit.

And AD likely won't touch it, and I'm not sure I would let them if it were my watch.

It's actually -1 to +6 for the Cal. 2500 in this watch.

You worked very hard for that money…

    You assiduously saved that money…

You agonised about how to spend that money, …and with whom ?

If one of the most recognised watch brands in the World…cannot replace the defective watch, on the spot, or very, very swftly !

Then I, personally, would arbitrarily demand, ( albeit politely still ), a full refund…and spend your money elsewhere

I was assuming they had an Omega watchmaker on site but good point.

He bought it at an AD, not am OB. So it's about that AD's stock, as well as their customer relations. If it were bought at an OB that would be a different story.

2500 is metas? I thought it was just COSC.

I think you are splitting hairs…

Irrespective of whether it is an ‘Authourised Distributor’…or an Omega Boutique, ( Naff description )

The goods purchased, need to be of ‘merchantable quality’ / fit for purpose

    Self evidently…this watch was not

Not splitting hairs. An AD is not Omega, and they may not have the inventory depth an OB has, and thus may not be able to immediately replace with a new one.

I would definitely demand a full refund, and just take my money elsewhere. You purchase it from AD, really for two reasons IMO, 1) customer service, and 2) knowing it is authentic.

This is terrible customer service for any ADs standards.

Are we all really that delicate? @golfsky should push the AD for faster turnaround or a better resolution, but claiming that this is "terrible customer service" seems a bit much.

No, not METAS. -1 to +6 is Omega's tolerances for their COSC rated watches...has been for many years.

Just returned. They exchanged the slow watch for a new one. They are sending the “bad” watch back to omega. The watch guru was very apologetic and even offered a nice discount if I wanted the current wave dial Seamaster. Unfortunately my wife and I just don’t like the dial.
New watch has the time nailed, no issues.
    Very happy with the service.
