So, I've gone Seamaster crazy. I was on vacation in Greece last month and managed to get a good deal on a brand new Seamaster 300m (ref. 212.30.41.20.03.001). It was the only Seamaster that caught my eye like the Bond watch, and I truly think that it is as nice, or nicer than the previous models with the upgrades they have included. I only miss the wave pattern, but it has a beautiful navy blue dial. I had been thinking about this watch since I was 10 years old, I am at a point in my life that I can afford it, I bought it after 5 minutes of it on my wrist.

So, I got home, I'm wearing this watch every day for a month, love it of course, but I got to thinking about the real Bond Seamaster 300m: the reference 2531.80.00. I look around and one almost literally fell into my lap, listed that day on Chronostore. Price: almost exactly the 1997 MSRP, $1,500. It's used, the bezel has some fade and honest wear, but I didn't care; I saved more on my 300m in Greece that I could buy this one and still come out on top. It arrived today, it needs a few extra links to fit, and maybe a new bezel in the future, but what a dream come true, the real Bond watch. Check them out and let me know what you think (some photos with flash, some without, I'll get better photos in daylight soon):

As a side note, does anyone make an exact replacement bezel insert? Otto Frei only has the whole bezel for sale, and I'm a little concerned about the quality of the $16 ones on eBay.

Also, I noticed that the hand wind on the new Seamaster is not as smooth as the old one. Has something changed, or is there something wrong with my brand new watch?

Crown seal on the new watch is probably what the difference is.. Old watch, old seal.... Old one probably could use a service considering it's 10 years old...

Absolutely, before I wear the old one I'm having it serviced. You never know how these were abused or the condition of the gaskets when they're used.

    Not the best shot
But I just replaced a 12 yo bezel with one from Ofrei
It really brings it back to life although some love the faded look

guelerct, I may just do that. We'll see how much this overhaul and adjustment costs me, and then I'll look at the full bezel replacement option after. For $350 or so from Omega it seems like a good price to revamp a great watch.

    Aftermarket bezel inserts suck.

What do you recommend? I was going to order from Otto Frei.

Try your nearest Omega dealer first. They may be a lot cheaper than Offrei.

Good suggestion. Just got off the phone; the Omega boutique in King of Prussia will replace the bezel for $300, which is cheaper than just the bezel from Ottos. I'm having the watch serviced by my guy then I'll take it over.
