Out of curiosity, did you buy this as watch only or with box/papers?
I have the box, booklets, wallet and screwdriver tool, anchor. No sales or service papers. The 1993 dial was replaced during one service with a tritium 1997 dial. The bezel has been replaced with a non tritium pearl as it glows in the dark still. The hands and dial only dimly glow.
As it is a 1990s and not totally original, it’s value is way lower than a new Sea Dweller. It will also not be super valuable in my lifetime, so I am looking at it more as an everyday watch to enjoy.

If the price is good for you this is definitely a GREAT watch to enjoy. The fact that it has a couple of replacements to keep it in order is not a bad thing unless you want o be precious about originality. Sometimes a great tool watch, like any tool, needs a little love to maintain it....and that is part of it's charm and life.

I think it's a great watch and love that even with the aded heft of the Sea Dweller series, you still end up with a more modest watch than the modern 11XXXX or 12XXXX series.

Amazing watch. The Sea-dwellers were always the next level Sub and tool watch. I’d leave it as is but it has to work for you! Cheers.

Got the service sheet back. Looks like they will keep the original tritium dial, bezel, and hands without replacement.
I guess I am sort of relieved. I would have gone for a more functional new dial as I am not considering ever selling this. So now I get the tritium back, and it probably is how the watch should be kept, as close to original as possible.

Nice. What do they mean by “case and bracelet has been refinished”? Is that their lingo for somebody other than us polished this?

That would be my guess

Note: All parts are replaced on a "trade in" basis...
This doesn't suggest that your old parts are going to be sent back to you

I have sent multiple modern & vintage Rolex for service over the years - both RSC Dallas and NYC - with no issues.

Always note on the service request not to polish or replace any visible parts. Always got a “service recommended” summary with cost before the work was started. Not once has Rolex refinished case/bracelet or replaced parts without my OK.

YMMV. 👍

I remember the Rolex center in 5th avenue in New York gave the option to leave dial and hands etc untouched on a 5512. This was about 6 years ago
They did. I used to go to them before I moved as well.

At least with me it did. That's why they offered me two prices. $xx if they keep the old pieces and $xxx is I want them back. In essence they are deducting the trade in value from the first option. In my case I just got to keep the old bezel and pay for the new one in full.

Do you miss this? 😀

I personally like it, but I'm not sure I prefer mine to an older one with tritium and holes. Holes are fantastic for a quick switch with some sporty leather strap.

You can also get lug holes on luminova versions. My 2001 16600 has them.

I will greatly miss the night appearance and glow deep into the night. My earliest memories of my first radium watch as a child, was/is starring in amazement at the dial while in bed in a dark room.
