New Scam using OF? Speedmaster parts.

I recently posted a WTB for Speedmaster parts on the forum. This morning this popped up in mailbox.

Great! Someone can help me….but then I looked and thought it odd that the surname Scott appeared twice. So I went back to The forum and did a search for the usernames mentioned. Nothing. And no messages in my inbox either. A scam targeting just me? Seems so.

If anyone else has got these or something like it let us know. Thought the members should be aware of this. It’s sad and pathetic that anyone should do this.

He messaged everyone with a WTB listing and was banned, when some guy wants to complete the transaction by email it typically means they know they will be rapidly banned here and don’t want to miss out on the scam.

Don’t email them.

It's a common scam in response to WTB listings. There is always an invitation to contact a third party via email. Follow dsio's advice. Don't respond to the post, don't send an email to the address given, and report the post to the mods.

Or do email them...and try and do a DLT222...

If you do, please take us on the ride with you. We might be able to help 😉

Yep the guys messaged me with the same message.

Zero post member suggesting email contact outside of OF = scammer.

I, too, was contacted by this fellow, getting my hopes up that he might be able to help tracking down tough-to-find end links. Kudos to the mods for acting quickly to delete the DMs and his account.

Just as an fyi- and I’ve mentioned it in a thread like this before, not all new posters to a WTB are scams. I had someone reach out to me about rare hands once and I thought it may be a scam. I only correspond through OF and had the seller take multiple pics with specific instructions- he met every hurdle, I bought the hands via PayPal G&S and he has gone on to be an active member.
So sometimes- probably rarely- it’s legit.
