I just realized that I've made it a year without hitting 200 posts. I read the forums a LOT, but often times I don't have anything to add so I don't comment. I need to up my post farming game It would've been much tougher as a newer collector to go this whole time without PM privileges; I've learned a lot through some discussions there in addition to regular threads. PMs have also been helpful to reach out to individuals for feedback on private watch listings, as it feels a bit taboo to start threads asking for feedback on watches that are for sale here on OF.
Well not really. I think it is fair enough to discuss watches that are for sale, away from the sales post itself. A little tact and politeness are necessary and desirable I think but I don't think it fair to say discussion of pieces for sale is verboten. That certainly isn't a forum rule AFAIK.
I have always understood the same as you. I have seen it done and providing, as you say, it is done tactfully and in an honest way outside of the actual sales post then I see no issues.
What are we discussing ? In the private sales section, there are topics about selling watches from participants with posts of less than 200 . Or am I confusing something ?
Listed watches here are open game just like everywhere else. As has been said many times, “start a thread, not in the FS listing” Have been several over the years.
Precisely, the only time we delete critique of a watch if its in the listing itself or if its plainly wrong / false
While we're on the subject of free riders and restrictions, I think the threads "recommended watches on Ebay" should be restricted access -- 1000 posts and two years of membership to be able to view those threads. Right now any lurker and their brother can get free purchase recommendations.
I find the best forums are the ones where you can say fuck and no ones panties get twisted.... EDIT: and I upped my post count by 1.....
