[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG]Seller noted it was very difficult to wind. It loosened up significantly after I wound it several times. The scratch on caseback is barely visible. Dial and movement are immaculate.

Is there a way to brighten up the ss case beyond just mild soap and soft cloth?
Will Flitz ss cleaner remove too much metal if rubbed gently? Do the lug bevels suggest the absence of previous polishing? Is crown original (I need to read Desmond's article about Constellation crowns-just being lazy here). Purchased for a pretty good price.

    What do you guys think?

A light polish with cape cod clothes should work and the case should brighten up a little. Might also want to replace that crystal!

What you see in that pic is artifact from the hands. The crystal is actually immaculate and unfortunately aftermarket, I don't see the Omega sign on it..

How about the sides of the crystal where it meets the bezel?

OK, now I see what you see...yeah, it's a mess! Is it difficult to find a NOS crystal for this one?

Nice watch, the dial is in very nice shape. I would just send her for a service, would be a shame to polish out those sharp edges! :)

Good catch! You dont see these 14766s nearly as often as the 14381s. While purists (including myself) may assert that the design story of this piece calls for a decagonal crown, if there is OXG stamped on the movement anywhere, usually the train bridge but not always, then the crown (or similar style) may have been original to the watch.

Some US-bound Constellations were prepped for sale in the US and that often included a different crown to the Swiss versions.

    Cheers

My 167.005 Constellation is 14K and has the "OXG" mark like Desmond says.

    It has the same crown.

    Very nice original piece!

    Desmond and gator,

I can't find an OXG mark anywhere. Perhaps I should put on the NOS decagonal crown that I have? Also need to see if ofrei has a caseback gasket when I order the crystal.

This may be the first time that I (a novice collector) was able to spot value in a very reasonably priced watch and walk away feeling like a winner.
If not for reading this forum and Desmond's blog I'd still be purchasing overpolished frankens.

    Thanks one and all!

Bit of an old thread resurrection -but with a question

I was browsing the 'Bay, as you do, and came across a Connie 14766
it wasn't a reference I'd come across before, so I did a bit of digging
there appears to be very little written about this reference and this seems to be the only thread on OF that mentions the case style

    my question is - what's the difference between a 14766 and a 14381?
    they look very similar 'head-on'
is it just a slightly slimmer lug (in profile)

link for anyone interested - nice case but a bit of a blistered dial

I think you got it. The lugs are slightly different.

Apart from the OP from 2013 - anyone else got one of these rare little beasties?

I'd seen it too for a while until it sold. Besides a few words Desmond wrote above and covered it in his calibre doc, no article's written.

The main differences are a slightly bigger case size and larger crystal to cover the larger dial. The lugs shape varies even within one reference, either 14381 or 14766. Here's another one with different lugs found years back:
