hi everyone, thought i'd share that i picked up a maxi dial 5513 this week. here's a wrist shot from today. it's probably one of the last matte dial subs ever made by rolex since it dates to 1984. maxi v. i believe that was the end of the matte dial run. i actually used to own a gloss dial 5513 that dated to 1984 as well. i really love the way it wears on the wrist. it has a nice weight, more so than other vintage subs i've owned. lugs and crown guards look even and strong. i'm not sure the insert is period correct, but i do like how it is super clean without scratches or chips. i may try and pick up a mk3 fat font insert in the future. it used to bother me if i saw subs with the pearl missing, but i kind of like it now! prefer that to having a luminova pearl that glows when the rest of the watch doesn't. the crystal doesn't look to be the original t19. may swap that out for something more rounded in the future as well to give it more of a vintage look. lume is super clean which is nice. cheers all.
thanks! i'm definitely considering it. i just need to ignore that part of me that questions why i am spending so much money on a small piece of aluminum instead of say a new laptop, iphone, furniture, etc.!
Because you know that a perfect fat mk3 insert will bring your more happiness than all the above put together
Post a profile shot and we can see if the t19 looks right. Having the right plexi will also greatly enhance the look of the watch
vn,.....would love to have one. i will be the first one in line when rolex rolls at it's vintage series in a couple of years
This is a period correct mk3 on my maxi mk1 And this is a fatter font insert. Some say mk2, some say early mk3
thanks for all the responses and info! i ended up picking up a fatter font faded insert and a domed crystal. here is a new photo!
