This is the new Speedmaster X33 Skywalker, or what you could call the Speedmaster X33 Gen 3 released at Basel 2014. Features an all new quartz movement and a design that builds off the X33 Generation 2's matte bezel and mid crown, but adds the Z-33 Spacemaster's horizontal LCD setup and inverted segments. Trev is a big fan of the X-33 and when he saw this he was looking at it wondering how it is they've managed to get the "off" segments so dark it almost looks like they don't exist. This watch is certified by the ESA for use in spaceflight so expect to see it on the wrist of an International Space Station crewmember before too long. The X-33 really was far too good to be allowed to die off, long live the X-33 Gen 3 Skywalker! (pics by http://www.watch-insider.com/)
Nice. Not quite sure about the cutouts in the dial for the LCD, but I guess I can get used to that. I wonder what this will do to the prices of the gen 1 and 2. I've been looking for one. The new one is $5500 according to the link http://www.watch-insider.com/news/baselworld-2014-omega-novelties/9/
I like the cutouts, and particularly the bezel, even if I do think it looks like an upmarket G-Shock (I think it's something to do with the X33 shaped pushers in combination with the stick hands).
I literally nearly bought an X-33 GEN-2 Top Gun edition off eBay, the damn thing went for just over $2k and I was prepared to go significantly higher: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Omega-Sp...w4HfVSlzIqIm5mI%2FKWc%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
But most important; will this be available to the general public, or do you need to be a fighter pilot?
If I had seen that I would have bought it for my Father-in-Law, a retired Master Chief of Carrier Aircraft Maintenance .
Its at Baselworld for the non-aircraft owners like us to see so its safe to assume it'll be on the open market I'm really keen to see it in the flesh (or titanium in this case). Pilots still rave about how good the X-33 was from an actual user experience point of view, it was one of the few true tool watches on the market during the gen1-2 production run.
Mate I was willing to go to $3k on it, but I overslept the alarm on my iPhone and missed it. Trev desperately wanted it too but I'd shotgunned it, he wasn't happy when he found out.
Another shot of the Skywalker X-33 from Robert-Jan at Fratellowatches RJ actually just did an article on the X-33 for Speedy Tuesday before Basel
A shame, don't buy the Air Force Gun School though, nobody wants those ............................................................FLY NAVY..........................................................
Yea I've seen that, someone was trying to sell an X-33 Air Force Gun School caseback edition and in his ad he genuinely said
I am so happy to see another X-33 generation. This is my first "must have" from Basel 2014. The 45th Anniversary Speedy is cool too, but the SM300 is kind of a yawn for me.
I think the previous X33 has easier to read LCD display, which I like better. For $5.5k, I will be hunting for my X33 2nd at half that price ...
Well that's unexpected! Nice to see the X-33 functional form factor back, the Z-33 was nice on paper but rather "outlandish" in the flesh. Too bad the "round" digital display is gone though, the one they're using looks like what's available on Tissot's...Hope it's TC!
