If it is the start of a new SMP300M generation, I'm sure that most buyers would appreciate a slimmer movement and modern steel bracelet with a taper from 20mm down to 16mm. I would also like to see more anodized aluminum dial bezel models. Most of the ceramic bezel models are too loud for me.
Also scratch resistance, also it's just an industry expectation at this price point. If they use an alu bezel on the next gen standard models, everyone will accuse them of cost cutting and complaining about scratches.
As per the other thread and the Reddit one which this has originated. Would seem odd to be another new Seamaster so soon after the current Bond Merch variants. Could it be a new Bond announcement & certain stores showcasing the new watches.
Or do we think new watches?
I'm 50/50 on the helium escape valve. A flush push button would give the case a cleaner look, but the current valve makes the Seamaster unique.
Why does it have to be either? The simplest answer is it’s an invitation to some drinks and passed plates at the boutique.
I would love to be wrong, but if this were a larger launch strategy I think there would be more to it than one event held at a boutique in Brisbane.
This happens often - someone gets an invite for an event at the boutique, they’ve never been to one before so they think it must be special, people online follow suit - and it leads to disappointment and more dissatisfaction overall.
New SMP300Ms will come out. Maybe this year, maybe 2027. Like you said, so soon after the new Bonds doesn’t make sense. That would kill sales immediately.
I think a lot of people will be happy with the new line once it’s out. But I’m having a more positive relationship with the brand lately by not getting my hopes up. I actually think the new bond watches are cool and I think it’s partly because I’m not expecting new and improved anytime soon.
I'm the same. For me the HEV is part of the model's identity, but I literally never use it and I'm so used to it, I don't even really notice it on mine any more. I think making a flush version at the same 10 o'clock position is a pretty good compromise of respecting the history while still cleaning up the watch a bit. I think at minimum though, if they do keep the screw down valve, just make it a little smaller and most people will be happy.
Yeah, when I made my first comment I was curious about the source as well. The image having a refreshed wave dial in a new shade of blue, if it was posted say on Omega's website as a full page background, I'd be 100% convinced it's a lead up to a new gen launch. You wouldn't post prominent SMP imagery like that to do anything else. But just some boutique isn't enough to go on yet.
On the other hand, it makes no sense to build up to an event around watches that are already out, over a month after they release to the public. And if I were Omega's marketing team I'd time the new gen launch to coincide with the announcement of the new Bond actor, considering how successful that partnership has been.
TL;DR: dunno lol
