Been looking around. Local watch shop has it. And while I've been reading on here and searching online...I know the place to ask is here. Been a long time member on TRF. Store is asking $4200. Any input? Anything look wrong? They told me its a 70s era watch. I'm a noob when it comes to the speed master so take it easy on me.
The watch looks fine but it's way overpriced for a watch with an aftermarket strap and no bracelet. Just my opinion, you can get a much better watch for far less $
Thank you. What's the going rate around for something like that? Usually find stuff around the 3's but that's online and I don't know what or who I'm buying from really
Hello. A website that helped me out to buy my first speedy as i am new to this as well. Www.speedmaster101.com But as mentioned above. Overpriced. You should hang on around this forum. Many members sell awesome pieces for fair market values.
Estimating the age of a Speedmaster by serial is not an exact science. Give yourself +/- 2 years or so. http://chronomaddox.com/omega_serial_numbers.html http://chronomaddox.com/romans.html http://ialreadyhaveawatch.com/watch-articles/omega/omega-serial-numbers-by-year/ Speedmaster101.com is an indispensable resource. If your interest is speedies continues to grow, the Moonwatch Only book is also an essential reference though a little more expensive than speedmaster101. Edit: For guidance on prices, Use The Price Chart http://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/ (for watch head only)
You need to see inside the back. Get the reference from inside the case back and serial from he movement. Check it matches, then look up the price chart. http://speedmaster101.com/blog/the-quick-and-dirty-way-to-buy-well-check-a-145-022/
Dual looks like it might have a nice appearance but doesn't look like it has a step, which would put it at mid-late 70's which is less desireable than early 70's/60's. Bezel looks rough in places and no bracelet. Check out speedmaster101 but it looks pretty average and its a high price.
Any input on these? Was also shown these 90's speedmaster which look great And This beautiful step dial. Which would be a bit more. Was introduced to a very nice man who was showing me his stuff.
Again case backs and movements. Just a glance at a dial isn't very helpful. The speedy experts here (I'm not one) shouldn't be hit with a shotgun blast of photos of varied assortment.
All the watches shown will be rewarding to own...... For the right price. It is not rocket science at this level. The thing that puts me off is the very high price quoted in your first post. Sometimes paying a high price for a first watch is a good learning method/experience. Since you are already here, I do not think you have to do it that way....
^yeah found a more trustworthy place to get them which more appropriate prices. Thanks everyone for their help and info
