    Hello!
So what brings me to the forum?
It's actually a funny story (feel free to skip it tho):

I was visiting my grandfather a few weeks ago and at some point he told me "come with me to my safe, I have a watch I want to give you"
I thought to myself, well, no matter what watch it is going to be I will tell him I like it and take it, worst case I can store it in a drawer if I don't like it - you cant say no to grandpa! (don't want to insult him).

Anyway, we go to the safe, he enters the pin and pulls out an Omega watch box, I did not know what to expect but I thought to myself "The content of this box must be something very special!"

He hands it to me, I open it, and can you guess what was inside? a "Guess" watch, a pretty ugly one too but like I said, I took it and I will keep it because of it's sentimental value but will probably never wear it.

I saw my mom a few days later and told her the story, she then said "Oh that's probably the box of the Omega he gave your father when we married, ask your dad".
So I did, he told me the watch has been in a drawer for a few years now and he thinks it's not working, I told him to give it to me so I can fix it for him.
I saw him a few days later and he gave me the watch, I had no idea what the model was but noticed it's a BIG watch.

My dad did not remember the exact model as well so I turned to Google for help, that's when I learned it's an Omega Seamaster 600 Plongeur Professional or PloProf 600 for short.

The watch wasn't working when I got it, the crown was stuck in place so I couldn't adjust the time and date or wind the watch.

My first thought was to send it over to Omega so they can fix it for me and make it as good as new again, luckily I went on the forums and found out that's the last thing you want to do with a vintage watch.
So I found a vintage specialist that was recommended by some friends and he did a full service for it and brought it back to life-

And now back on my wrist (my dad told me too keep it, it is now mine)-

    So, why am I here?
Well, first to learn more about my watch, I saw there are multiple versions for the bezel, dials etc. and I would like to know more about my watch.

Second, to join the community and maybe someday contribute from my knowledge.

    Cheers!

    Hi

Wonderful story, and it’s great that you went down the vintage restoration route after advice from here ...

You have a lovely Seamaster PloProf 600, a magnificent dive watch from the early 70s. As you’ve noticed, it’s a big watch and doesn’t suit everyone, and not everyone likes it’s brutal good looks - but I love it, and it’s one of my favourites. I’ll post a of mine photo later as I’m at my parents house and my kids are STILL opening presents..:

Others will add in, but in the meantime there’s an interesting article at Fratello, to get you started:

Wear and enjoy a great family heirloom in good health!

Thanks for the article! , I came across it when I was still trying to figure out the exact model and specs for my watch.
I think it's a D4 B1 but I'm not sure, also it'll be interesting to know what configurations came out from the factory, meaning what dial-bezel combinations were original and what combinations mean it was serviced/changed since it left the factory.

    Waiting to see yours :)

    What a great Story !

Keep it and love it, my dad passed away three years ago, he left me a casio quartz, 50€ i guess, but i love the watch and wear it as a Talisman form time to time.

Very cool story and awesome watch.

I love PloProfs.. My first Omega, and still my daily driver 4 years later, was a 45.5mm Planet Ocean with their 8500 movement.. I’m just shy of 7’ and she fits PERFECT. I hope to find a piece like yours one day when I’m ready to jump into the vintage world. Still so much to learn.

Thanks for sharing - another PloProf wormhole has been an amazing start to my morning.

Welcome to OF! And thanks for sharing your story. Much of the fun around the forums is reading how/why people attained their watches. The dive watch you have is a real charmer

Very cool watch. I love the PloProf's although I cannot see myself walking around with one on my wrist. It has developed some great patina if I may add...

Thanks for your comments, I’m glad you found my story interesting enough to go trough ;)

I see what you mean, I don’t think I liked it looks the first time I saw it but after reading up on it I started by admiring the engineering behind it and later it looks grew on me as well.

Regarding the patina, my dad used it during his army service which also involved diving, so yeah, a pretty special watch!
