Hi all, I'm Tim and I just joined this forum because I'm the new owner of an old Omega! I'm looking for information and any help and advice I can get!

I purchased this watch from a gentleman who's Step Father passed away and it was in the safe he cleaned out. He said it was in the safe since 1973. It's an Omega Seamaster 30 and is in great shape. He said it's a 1963 model, but from my limited research, I understand it may be a 1962 or 1961 model. I paid $350 and then took it to a watch guy who serviced it. He charged me $80 to clean it, oil it and he replaced the crystal because it was previously replaced but not installed correctly. The watch face has a linen finish and a second sweep hand as you can see from the pics. It is a manual wind watch. So, I have $430 invested. The watch is gorgeous and runs perfectly.

So...what do I have? What don't I know? Did I overpay? Can you tell me more about the watch?

The pics are attached and I appreciate any help you can provide! Major

Wow 80 bucks is pretty inexpensive for a service. If it’s all good I think your fine price wise little hard to make out the lettering with that picture but someone who has that model can probably give better info. I really like the sub dial for seconds I don’t have a model like that

The watchmaker you went to may have taken down the reference and serial number and that will help with dating the watch and giving you more information. Regardless, the watch is genuine and the case looks sharp. Nice pick up.

you got a good deal. I would pay a similar (higher) amount for that type of watch. Although I am looking for a sub second dial…

Thanks for the replies thus far. I contacted the watch guy who recently serviced the watch. He did record the Case Reference Number as 125.003-62. My research shows that it is a 1962 model and the Linen face is a little bit rare (maybe not?). I certainly think it dresses the watch up nicely. The watch is running great and keeps perfect time. I don't wear it all the time so I only wind and set it when I'm about to wear it. I think this is the way to go as opposed to winding it everyday whether I wear it or not. I'm going to try and load a few better pics and appreciate any comments or feedback. Major

Looking good!
Dial is excellent for age.
I will guess a caliber 260 movent
It may have been a 1961, 62 mfg date, does not mean it sold right away.

You're off to a great start Tim. Thanks for joining us and thanks for the photos of the linen dialed Seamaster 30.

I think the Seamaster 30's are always appropriate watch attire.

Nothing to not like here, all good. A linen dial is less common, but not exceedingly rare. Yours is quite nice. Congrats!

Thanks everyone! I have other watches but there's something very appealing about a nearly 60 year old vintage watch with classic good looks. Elegant functionality! I'd like to pick up a nice early black face De ville now that I've seen some of them. I want to steer clear of ebay because I'm not educated enough yet to know real from fake or re-worked watches.
