Hello. I was wondering if any one on this site could help me in my search for information about a watch i have. It is a Heuer Carrera and to the best of my knowledge researching photos on the web it is possibly a Chronograph Valjoux 72, 2447s.. It does not have any markings on the back only 799940 engraved between the lugs. On the inside it has -HEUER LEONIDAS SA SWISS STAINLESS STEEL Then three sets of light engravings as follows- F11-69 ( the letter J under it ) F1473K ( 6 o'clock position) F1176R ( at the top ) Then F112575K at the 9 o clock position. The watch is missing the winder and was given to me by a friend who didn't have the interest in fixing it. Anyways i have posted some photo's and any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Your friend is very nice. Expect a full service at about $500 and you've got a great piece. I'm sure someone will give you a date range for it and model.

Most certainly worth getting it back in working condition. Buy your friend a few good meals with nice wine.

About 1967 given the serial number. The minute hand looks incorrect too, but this is a beautiful watch and worth taking the time / putting up the money to restore.

799940 is your serial number. Your watch is quite valuable, so don't just allow anyone to service it.

    engravings as follows- F11-69 ( the letter J under it ) F1473K ( 6 o'clock position) F1176R ( at the top ) Then F112575K at the 9 o clock position.

These sound like service marks indicating it was likely serviced in 1969, 73, 75 and 76

I would advise if you plan on selling the watch you just leave it as-is. As I mentioned above the watch is quite valuable, and servicing it by the wrong person can reduce its value. The parts are your watch alone are worth well over $3-4k, so you want to make sure whoever services this is familiar with vintage watches and doesnt remove any of the original parts...but if properly restored the watch is worth considerably more. It looks like all you need is a good service and a new crown and stem and you will have a stunning watch that is highly collectable. There are only a few watchmakers I would trust with this piece. Let us know if we can guide you to one. The hands appear to all be original including the minute hand, the movement looks correct and in very nice condition...you have a gem...treasure it.

If the OP listed this on EBay using only the photos above and with a BIN of $3500 + the option for Best Offer...how many seconds do you think it would have taken for this to be sold at the full BIN price?

I’m going to guess about 4.5 seconds, mostly due to the lag between reality and pushing the button.

I hope OP does not try to sell it for a profit. From what I have read recently, any potential profit gained at any point in the future should rightfully go to OP's friend.

Seems this DIBS thingy didn't work, either, from reading the other thread.

    karma is a bitch, sometimes.
