What is SM? A Seamaster or Speedmaster? It's on a strap? I wouldn't say that's a deal, that's the goin' rate.

SM=Speed Master. sorry wasn't specific.

You're right. I decided to hold off on the deal after digging into pricing a little more. Apparently a lot of private sellers who are more into the luxury brand name and not true horologist think that the asking price of secondary dealers is the price they should be asking.

I'm going to keep on shopping and see if its possible to find a speed master pro less than 5year old for under 4k. if not, then save up for the moonphase.

Keep an eye on the For Sale section here as well. There have been a couple new Speedmasters listed recently at very good prices. You don’t have enough posts to list items but you can still PM sellers and buy. Getting one under 4k might be tough. You may have to try your luck if one comes up no reserve on eBay.

Thanks! The hunt for a deal is a lot easier when a watch is your second choice. my first choide is the speedmaster moonphase, and second is the professional.

Welcome to the forum! Can't say I have all the acronyms straight but Speedy for speedmaster seems to be fairly agreed upon, and SM, SM300, SMP are all acronyms for (various) seamasters. SMP for the Seamaster Pro, and SM300 for the heritage (I've also seen/used SMH).

Here's a somewhat comprehensive list from @AJwala of acronyms you might see here!

I would definitely try to hunt down one with a metal bracelet if you can. Straps are much easier to grab (and less costly) second-hand in my observation than bracelets. May not always be the case, but...

$4k for a Speedmaster that is less than five years old may be a bit of a stretch, but I bought a BNIB 3861 Hesalite on bracelet last September for $5k off the sales forum here. Just keep an eye out.
