Hi. Recently discovered OF as a wonderful resource in my journey towards purchasing a vintage Omega, and was pleasantly surprised to find the forum was established by fellow Aussies.
My ‘collection’ is an Aqua Terra purchased in 2018, Seiko SARB017 Alpinist, Seiko SKX07, and a vintage Gold Waltham VIP that belonged to my Great Uncle.
Until recently I had my heart set on a Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch, but last year that changed and I decided my next watch actually needs to be a classy dress watch on leather with a white dial. I sat next to a guy on plane wearing a beautiful vintage omega and decided that’s just what I’m after.
So now I’m learning, watching and waiting - getting ready for the right watch to come along, which I think is a mid 60’s Seamaster or Constellation - and enjoying the collective wisdom on OF as I do.

Here’s the collection in photos. I bought the alpinist in 2012, the Diver in 2015 and the Aqua Terra was the first real luxury watch purchase. Time for another watch….

Welcome to the House of Enablers.
Your little collection is off to a good start so good luck with your hunt for a nice vintage Omega.

Keep an eye out here

A lot of these are overseas but it'll give you an idea of what to look for.

You can also check the Private Sales forum and if you see something you have to have you can PM the member and discuss further.

And don't forget the regular pro sellers

Welcome from across the ditch (there are few Kiwis around)... enjoy all the wisdom here. Many great options for Omega dress watches from the 60s. As JimInOz suggests, we'll be happy to enable...

Thanks for the welcome. One thing I am wondering is if there are ever opportunities in Oz to see these sorts of vintage watches in the flesh? I know from experience that sometimes what I covet based on photos and reviews doesn’t call out in the same way when I see it for real.

Hard to recommend anywhere when we don't know where you are.

Nearest big city?

Sorry, I’m based in Canberra. I travel pretty frequently to Sydney and Melbourne.

Not sure about Sydney, but these guys are in Sydney as well as Brissy.

SYDNEY STORE

  • Shop 28 Ground Level
    The Strand Arcade
    412-414 George Street
    Sydney NSW 2000

BRISBANE STORE

  • Shop 3b/4
    Tattersall's Arcade
    202 Edward Street
    Brisbane QLD 4000
They are good places to browse, but the prices reflect their location.

In Melbourne there were a few vintage shops, but I haven't been into the city for ages.

The Watch Gallery
337 Little Collins Street,
Melbourne Vic 3000

Just Google Vintage Watches Melbourne.

It's hard to actually see them in the flesh nowadays. Since Covid, a lot of places found it was easier and cheaper to sell on-line and use sites like eBay, Instagram, Reddit etc.

Welcome to the forum, nice start for a collection.
@JimInOz don’t you have watch fairs in Australia from time to time?

You could have a look at A Watch in Time when next in Melbourne,
  • 268 Nepean Hwy
  • Edithvale, VIC 3196
  • (03) 9706 7842
Is the new address, having moved from Heathmont
They usually have a selection of vintage and classic watches or sale.
You can check their inventory online to see if there is anything you wanna see.

We have tractor shows (fairs), aircraft shows, car shows, flower shows, animal shows, in fact, shows for almost everything except watches.
I think our limited audience compared to the US or Europe is the reason.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do know the shop in the Strand arcade Sydney but haven’t seen much there, to be fair though I’ve only been focused on specific models of Omega for a few months.
@Syrte thanks for the welcome. Where I live in the nation’s capital I’ve seen record fairs, book fairs, gem fairs, flower fairs, Lego fairs, antique fairs but never a watch fair.
