I suppose this is sort of my intro to the forum. I have been lurking for awhile and finally joined not to long ago. I have been into watches, primarily vintage watches for many years. I have had a wide variety of watches over the years but never an Omega (crazy I know). A few years back I kind of lost interest and sold off the heard with the exception of a 41' Angelus Chronodato which was used as my daily business watch and a seiko diver. Well the bug has come back and I have started collecting again and vintage speedy's have been at the top of my list. I just received this 68' transitional which I consider to be an excellent representation. Very clean case, clean movement, correct 27xxx serial, beat up DON bezel (could have had a mint DNN but wanted the time correct bezel), and beautiful dial. I am always open to comments/criticism, etc... Now I know everyone loves pics so here it is.
Welcome, I am sure since like me you have been 'lurking' before joining you already know what a great forum this is. Very nice Speedmaster you have picked up welcome to he club!
Thank you both! Yes indeed, this community is amazing. I have been part of many forums (watch and non-watch related) and this is hands down one of the best I have seen.
Thank you, right now not much, just started again a month or so ago. In addition to this piece just my Angelus, Seiko, and a Sinn U1 professional. I plan on adding a couple more speedy's, and maybe a vintage heuer, and maybe a vintage gilt dial or red sub. Not sure though, been eyeing a time zone A. Lange.... so many beautiful watches to choose from.
You did very well. The 68 transitional models are highly desirable. I haven't been a member here too long, but I have already received some great information and advice. There is some serious knowledge on this forum.
Ok, so you did research, you showed patience, you got an awesome transitional, and.................... you wear a Chronodato daily to work!!! You definitely belong here
So what sparked the interest back into watches for me was a mishap with the daily chronodato. I bumped it while helping my son and knocked the crystal off, and threw the chrono hand and date out of whack. So I started looking for something to wear while it gets sent off to be serviced lol... And here I am. Funny how easy these things happen.
In the current market I bet he could buy a bezel and sell his and not take much of a loss. A heavily ghosted would look great and be around the same money.
I'd say he'd still have to put in 2k for a nice one. Enjoy as is and deal with a new bezel if it bothers you.
