As the title says, I just joined the forum today. I have been an active member of one of the other major watch forums and being an Omega addict one of the members was kind enough to refer me over here when I was looking to get some education on vintage Omegas. He said all the cool Omega people had migrated here .....well that's not exactly what he said but he did highly recommend you guys. I was bitten by an Omega SMP Chrono last fall and it resulted in a bad addiction. I proceeded to sell most of my collection and went on an Omega a month binge. I purchased two 2254.50s (one with the 2230 non AC dial mod), a 2598.20 (white SMP Chrono) and this week added a 2538.20 Great White). Family photos below. I am now on the hunt for a mint 50th anniversary GMT and of course have a long list if other Seamasters I would like to collect. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end (for a little while anyway) and I will need to slow down the rate of acquisition after the second GMT. So I do have a few questions about service. Do you typically use Omega or do you all have independent watchmakers for service. If independents, can anyone recommend a good watchmaker in the Connecticut/New England area?
Hi Matt. Are you a peanut butter fan or do those initials mean something else? You're wife's name doesn't start with a J, does it? As far as vintage Omega goes, you could always keep the collection you have while it (and you) become vintage.
LOL. Who doesn't like a good PB&J with a few beers. My kids would tell you that I am already vintage. Of course anyone over 20 is vintage to them.
Very nice, you have good taste. Those are definitely my favorites. Have you seen the 2255 with the 2230 non-AC dial mod? It is even nicer than the stock 2254. Most of us wonder why they never made it that way with the applied hour markers.
Nice watches! I recently picked up a seamaster gmt and current top of my hit list is a great white - but prices went beserk about a month ago (not sure why) and I'm hoping they settle back down...
Yes, non AC dial mod is very nice and sharp. Unfortunately it is very seldom available (if none exists) in Jakarta. Very few people in here messed up Omega with modification.
The Great White is a terrific watch for sunny weekends, and Matt, you picked up a great buy! It's one of the (very) few watches that my wife approves of.
Phew, now that I know Jeff referred you I feel much better. I was worried you might have been one of the WUSholes.
Well I started on that forum but I do have to agree it isn't always a friendly place but I am hoping this forum will be. Not all if us are WUSholes. Jeff is a good guy and hopefully I will live up to the standard he set. Thanks all for the welcome and Nick, I agree on the Great White. Great summer watch. For the most part my wife ignores my modest collection which is ok by me. . It keeps me out of the doghouse.
No worries - I know there are some good guys there still. Some of the long time good members take hiatuses because putting up with some of the crowd can be trying to say the least.
Yep. I hang out here mostly now as well. I go back infrequently but it's always the same. They do have a very well populated sales forum that I trawl through regularly though.
Agreed - for certain types of watches. If you want a boutique diver or certain vintage brands it's a great place to scan. If you want a high end dress watch forget it!
