Hello Guys ! I don't know if it's the right place for a presentation... sorry if it is not !

I'm new here and also new in the Speedmaster family with a 145.022 69ST (still figuring out how serial numbers/production year ar working ::book::

So I'm a 29yo Car designer (just left Land Rover, now working on crazy vehicles for Ubisoft) in France and I'm from both Paris and Geneva. Riding Ducati's, love cars, watches (I have Rolex 5513, 16613LN and some others)

Concerning Omega ! As I said, I just bought my 145.022 and I will looking for some parts (Caseback straight writing based on what the seller told me), bracelet and glass. Everything else is original which is cool! :) (I guess)
Didn't really like the speedmaster at the beginning to be honest ... but since 6 month I'm totally in love ! And I finally got one, I'm so happy !

    Thats it ! Cheers

    @AS69
-69’s generally had the seahorse. -71 is when you started getting the 2 (4-5 depending on how you count) caseback variations with NASA. Some 69’s might have had a straight writing but depends on serial number.

Thank you for the details. Can it be a 145.022-69ST model from 71 > with SW ?

In theory but not common. Extract date would show a 71 production. What’s your serial number?

    How do you know it’s a 69?

My assumption is 145.022-71... some people might argue a -69 is possible. It’s kinda a grey area here. There is some documented overlap at series change and Omega records don’t state the series. Additionally if you get an extract of the archive with a date there is a question as to what that date is. That date may be mfg date, sales date to a reseller or when they got paid by the reseller... or it may vary per extract.... I doubt the last option. As members here have a pretty good algorithm that can predict the extract date which would not make sense if it was when they received funds. This now starts to delve into some odd extracts on very rare variations that some high profile auction houses have been able to get and are currently being questioned as to the truthfulness of those pieces. Which also bleeds into some games played a few years back in regards to extracts and what they denoted in regards to rare variations that some collectors where able to get.

What is for sure is your dial is correct with a step and the bezel is a correct DNN bezel as these would be accepted for both late -69 and all -71 production.

-69 had some changes through the series. The first called transitionals had an applied metal omega logo and the DON bezel aka dot over 90. The next change was to the printed omega logo on a step dial which extended through all -71 production and maybe very early -74. The next changes where to the bezel first a DNN aka dot next to 90 220 error bezel. Then the correct DNN bezel which extended through the mid 80’s.

Caseback are a bit fuzzy and I’ve never seen a spreadsheet which attempted to clarify them. Late 69’s could have received 1 of 3 straight writing variations. Then in early 71 you see a move to the No NASA and then the current caseback. The NO NASA has the center medallion you see on the current caseback but no writing at all.

Overlap of these may or may not exist as I’ve not done the research into it. They may be sequential maybe not.

I hope that explains it a bit.

Personally I’d keep the watch the way you have it and enjoy.

Thanks a lot for all of these informations Foo2rama, I will continue to improve my skills in the Speedmaster field and try to complete my watch as good as I can !
But for sure, looks like it was kind of messy in term of pieces for the 69 until early 70s watches.. So there is actually several options for mine when I will have to find a correct caseback..

Thanks again for all the informations
    Cheers

Moonwatch Only (consider buying this great book if you get into Speedmasters) puts the main serial range for SWs at 31.000.xxx - 32.857.xxx and date range 1970/71 - 1973. The 2 photos in MWO of the inside of casebacks are both 145.022-69STs.

There are two variants of the straight writing caseback. The common one has "The first watch worn on the moon" in straight writing with "Flight qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" around the perimeter. The rare one has the same text in straight writing but "Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI 1969" around the perimeter. No idea how much these cost to buy, expect a lot.

Thank you queriver for the details, Mine show a 71 year production as well, so it should be a SW as well.. Someone told me in a French forum that the rare "Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI 1969" was only sold in Japan.

Do you know where I could find a SW Caseback ? There is one in Ebay, but it is the only one on internet (I can't believe it haha)
    Cheers

Interesting, my Apollo XI SW was delivered to Japan, also the example in the MWO book however the book doesn't say it was only sold in Japan.

Just checked the ebay listing for USD2400. There are others here on OF that would know more about how much these CBs change hands for but they might not come across this thread so you should create a new one with appropriate title.
