Jomashop has one right now (I mean, call them to confirm it’s in stock before ordering, just in case), brand new, for 10,800 US, which is a pretty solid deal. It probably won’t come with the OEM warranty, if that matters—but that too is worth asking about. They may also have a coupon or be willing to negotiate on price.

Have you tried one on? You’re probably aware, but just in case: it’s a > 44mm watch, and it’s over 17mm thick. This is not a graceful piece that will slip unnoticed under a cuff—it’s a huge, thick watch. Because the lugs are relatively stocky, the span across the wrist might be only 50mm, so depending on your wrist size/shape you might be able to wear it with it seeming like a Panerai hockey puck, but—just something to be aware of. I really wish they’d done a version of this in the 40mm range.
“Panerai hockey puck” LOL. Yes 44/17mm is quite chunky, but it looks perfect on people that have a 10 inch wrist 👍

It strikes me as the kind of watch that looks cool when you first see it, but soon gets old. Personally, I think that all of the Speedmasters with coated cases fall into that category, but TBH this one takes busy and gimmicky to a whole new level.
The Speedmaster Blue Side of the Moon is categorically not got a “coated” case. Neither do the Dark Side, Grey Side or White Side. They are all ceramic cases with the same colour going all the way through the case. If you cut a case in half it is blue/black/grey/white all the way through.

+1 for JLC, but what characteristics would make you for a Laureato over an Ingeniuer?

Truth is, I probably wouldn’t ever want either of these (or any of the Genta designed/inspired pieces) as it’s not my thing. I used to be a little tempted by the Ingenieur when it was the earlier design, at the price point of a Seamaster Pro 300M. Now it’s a (smartly redesigned) $10,000 watch. For no other reason I can discern than the fact that that’s placing it into the hypewatch price category as a marketing ploy.

But once you’re into the low five digits, there are so many other watches to choose from than an IWC. I think of GP as a rung above IWC in terms of horology and prestige, and Laureatos remain one of the more accessible (though certainly not easy) hype pieces, and I suppose I’m drawn to its more angular case design. Given the choice (and no other), probably what I’d do.

I think IWC’s aggressive pricing for the new Ingenieur overvalues what it is and what most buyers would pay for it. But time will tell.
