    Hello Gents, :)

I got these two beatiful Certinas today and i'm thrilled to say the least. :D:D
The DS is 36mm, manually wound and dates to circa 1959. The sunburst dial is amazing. I'll have to do my homework and educate myself more on this one.
The other is my very first solid gold one and it's a stunner. ::love:: manually wound too and 34 mm in diameter which is the perfect size for me. I couldn't find any similar looking models online so i'll appreciate any additional info from you guys.

    Now to the photos:

Mine says hi. Bought for $2.00 at a yard sale. Spent far more than I should have, returning it to health. No need to tell me that the dial has been refinished, and the chrome plated case heavily buffed, in order that it be re-plated. This one has the Kurth freres 25-45 auto wind movement. One I have always liked. Good runner. Movement shot from the Ranfft archive.

Great choices. Certina is a very qualitative and underrated brand, my dream watch from them is a vintage DS2/DS3 Super PH1000 and a Super PH500, the suspension antichoc device of the DS series is very clever and the quality of Certina vintage movements equals Rolex, IWC, JLC, Omega and Zenith regarding reliability and accuracy.

I concur Georges, They are robust little wonders. I used to have a DS-2 PH 200M and never had an issue with timekeeping. These two work like a charm also :) I believe Certina made only inhouse movements and as you said very reliable, i just don't understand why this brand is so underrated.. Every collector should own a Certina at some point IMHO. The value for money is just insane ;)
Good luck finding the Certina you're after. Keep us updated. :)

Wow amazing pieces. That sunburst dial on the DS is just amazing. Bravo !
Is the DS2 chronometer in solid gold? I hear they're the holy grail of vintage Certinas.
    I'm in love. ::love::::love::

    Cheers! :)

    Cheers :)

It's solid gold, yes. IMO it is the pinnacle of the DS line, but not the most valuable or collectable one. I have others I prefer as well, but had to get it when the opportunity arose. I love the basic DS' like your manual a great deal too - they are the perfect allround vintage watches.

I'm now attracted to solid gold watches and i think i'm going to focus on purchasing new ones in the near future. An Omega would be great! That's an amazing piece, wear it in good helath! :)
The DS has a strong wrist presence, a rich history and an amazing dial. What more could one ask for ? :D
May i ask what would be the holy grail for all Certinas?

    Wamest regards.

Will do. I am someone very patient , very demanding and unforgiving on details so I will rather spare funds and buy something in pristine condition rather than buying something compulsively in average condition. Certina is more than outstanding value for money but people nowadays swear by the big brands such as Rolex, Patek, Tudor, Heuer, so more room to us.

Yes, it is also an uncommon and rare watch with a clever design and outstanding quality movement. Most important thing was that Certina the first brand to introduce a shock absorber around the movement, idea later copied by Zenith with the Defy and Jenny with the Pneulastic in their Carribeans.

May I ask where is the best place to hunt for Certina’s? I am interested in the DS, the reason being is that I will be able to wear it without worrying about splash or rain compare to a vintage seamaster. I don’t see too many on eBay coming up. The ones I saw at dealers are in the £500 mark, which I think is too much.

    Hello Shay,

I find Certinas form local dealers and collectors in Tunisia. I think catawiki or etsy would be your best bet.
A DS would be a terrefic addition. Good hunting. ;)

Hmm, there is some sort of chronograph that seem to demand very strong prices, can't recall the name... Talking about DS, I guess it would depend on who you ask. There are some fantastic looking divers, great "explorer type" watches and a series of anti-magnetic DS' which are a personal favourite of mine. Those last ones are probably the most uncommon of the various DS references.

Would you consider this as an uncommon Certina DS?

You may be referring to the Ref. 5826, Split Seconds Chronograph. This would be my grail for sure ::love::::love:: and the EA would be the cherry on top!
