Hi all, new to this forum but as a proud new owner of an Aqua Terra 15000 Gauss, the "Bumblebee" - I found myself reading opinions to see how good a choice I had made Anyway I wanted to ask y'all - the guy in the shop was trying to sell me an Apollo 17 limited edition moon watch (piccy attached.) Was really tempted to buy this as an investment to store away and sell one day. Apparently only 1972 ever made. It's a great looking timepiece but you just couldn't wear it through fear of scratching it!!! Should I have maxed out my credit card and bought this at the same time.........?
Those often sell for far less than what the standard Moonwatch (non-limited) fetches from those same years. It's generally a bad idea to purchase a new watch as an investment; this one is far more of a bad investment than most. If you like it, buy it and wear it - but you'll not make any money by locking it in a safe, sorry.
^^ that was my nice, sober response. I'm having trouble figuring out if this dude is trolling us though
Good that you didnt buy it ... I think it is one of the ugliest Omega's ever .. Of course just a personal opinion. Also i dont think it is a good investment at all.
Glad I didn't buy it now after hearing just a few opinions, I just hadn't seen one before and was thinking of making a few quid in say 10 years More than happy with my 15000 Gauss. The sales guy did try pushing me to get the Bond version but to be honest it was nearly a grand more just for the gimmicky "15,007" and a shinier dial. Wasn't prepared to fork out the extra :-p I also tried on a planet ocean "good planet" which was a great watch but once on my wrist was far to chunky. I would of battered that on every doorway I pass through. Gutted as that was kinda my first choice
I bet you that in 30 years that watch will be one of the most sought after because it is so unusual and hated. Weren't the Rollie Daytona hated when it first came out?
It was, but mostly because there were 1) better watches that were 2) already on the market and popular that were 3) cheaper than the Daytona at the time. Had little to do with aesthetics
Guessing future value is almost pointless. But this is meets one of my check box for future collector. Pedigree + uniqueness which sometimes lead to rejection initially + small number. Maybe I am wrong. How much do these go for today? A quick search on ebay yielded some very high asking price.
Every boutique still has these, and they have been available for 3+ years. Saw one in Vegas last weekend. I have never seen one in WRUW.... I'd buy about 1,000 other Omega watches before I'd buy this one.
Congrats on the AT, love that watch just wish it was a little smaller and thinner. Oh and congrats on not buying that LE Speedy. Probably the ugliest Speedmaster ever created.
Thanks for your opinions folk's. It clearly generates a lot of interest which is why I was tempted to buy. Still 50/50 on whether I made the right choice but the opportunity has passed me by now???? I do have some more piccy somewhere....
