    Hi Friends,

I went on a business trip to Richmond the other day. While I had some free time, I walked down the street into a pawn shop. The shop has some Rolex’s out that didn’t do much for me. However, I asked the owner if he had any more vintage watches available. He said, “I have this old Omega, and I will have to sell it as is. I’ll take $1500 for it”. “What do you mean “as is”, I asked. “It needs to be cleaned’, he replied. “Do you know of anything wrong?”, I asked. He replied, “No, it works okay, it just needs to be cleaned”.

I said I wanted to do a little research, and went back to the Hotel to check it out on the web. Didn’t take me long to get the picture, stop at the bank for some cash, and go back to the shop. I tried to ask if he would take less, but he said he would rather keep it. So out comes the cash, and back to the hotel I went with my new toy.

Please share your thoughts. I think I got a nice piece. This is my first Seamaster 300 and from the brief research, it seems to be all original.

    Cheers to all, Bruce

I would've picked this up as well based off of this photo!! Dial patination/colors seem even all round ;)

Get it checked out / serviced, pronto, if you haven't already.

The movement is the 552. Back is 165.024 with serial# 25,617,196. Watchmaker took a quick look now that I am back and signs off on it. As Si would say, “Hey! Every blind hog finds an acorn once in a while":)

I tend to prefer a Sm300 over the Sub myself. Well-found!

Thanks for the kind comments! I was not aware of the rarity of the 300 until a little research brought this old brain some new information.

As you can see by the posts, I am new to this forum, although not new to Omega’s. The wealth of information on this site is very valuable for information as well as fun to read and dialogue. You dudes are awesome! Mick, thanks for pointing me to this site.

Watches will certainly keep the grey matter exercised Bruce, there is always something new to learn and that is one of the best things about watches .
I'm pretty new here too, I don't post much but really enjoy the place.
    Cheers Mick

It is a beautiful watch at a give-away price.

One day, I would like to own a SM 300. It is far more beautiful than a Sub anytime and the price is still, very reasonable.

    Thank you.

I settled for a Watchco 300 due to the scarcity and cost of vintages of any quality, but would have gladly coughed up for that one. Great find at a great price!

    Respectable Member Seamonster,

I have seen how the watches often find new homes in this forum. Maybe someday........;) It is always a greater pleasure to pass a nice watch on to a friend rather than a stranger.

Wow! The back is stunning! What you have there is a really collectible specimen! Take good care of it and hold on tight to it. If you get rid of it, you will only regret it.

And never ever polish the case! You can polish the crystal and have the movement serviced, but don't touch anything else

Marturx, your suggestion is well accepted and will be followed. I will leave the watch as is. Thanks for your comments!
