I have to admit that it took me a while to warm up to the Speedmaster, but a couple of months ago I realized that I wanted one in my modest collection. After much deliberation I went with a new 311.20.42.30.01.005, purchased at Chitownwatch. It arrived today. Unpacked, removed a few links, put it on and I am very pleased.

I have a few questions for the members concerning the speedmaster:
Is the watch waterproof? Can I take it diving?
Can I over wind it? Should I wind it once an hour, or is 4 times a day sufficient?
Should I get a watch winder?

Just kidding on the questions of course, but not kidding about the Speedmaster

Since it is ok on the Moon it is obviously impervious to pressure so you can take it diving, just rinse it well in very hot water to get the salt off.

Yes it can be overwound, if you feel even slightly more then normal resistance you have hit full wind, and STOP or it will break!

A watch winder is a great way to observe your watch on your desk while you are not wearing it to prevent scratches, and will train you like an astronaut to tell time no matter what position the watch is in.

Glad you added that clarification at the end, because I was starting to believe you didn't deserve a Speedmaster if you didn't know how to use it properly. :)

    Enjoy.

Thanks Donn. And it's the first watch that I've bought that Mrs. Blufinz didn't roll her eyes, or ask "How much did that cost?" or "Another watch??" She just said, "That's a nice watch...I like it."
