Excited to share something that's new to me, and at the same time, the oldest wristwatch that I've ever owned. A 1944 (ish) Omega CK 2300/1 with an R17.8SC movement. That case, those lugs, that movement, those hands and that dial! Bought from the son of the original owner, who used to work as a metallurgist for British Steel, and likely picked this up when visiting the US on business in the 40s/50s. Looking forward to getting it running as it should, and on my wrist! Huge thanks to @Tire-comedon, @Dr No, and @mac_omega for their guidance, enthusiasm, and ongoing advice.
Congrats Chris! Wear in good health. That dial! If it could tell stories.. May i ask what size it is?
I just love these old mil/sports watches. They just give off this warm glow. They wear really well too. Perfect patina. Congrats.
They're awesome little things, and a real contrast to some of the big sports watches I have. And now I find myself hunting these little guys out... my eBay watch list is filled with things I can't afford.
What sort of (spring/fixed?) bars would you use on that? Love the beveled lugs, sort of remind me of Grand Seiko Grammar of Design... or maybe GS nicked a bit of Omega vocabulary .
I had a feeling when i first saw it “too nice to be large” Not to worry, the most beautiful things in life are the free, and the tiniest. Ok i made that up, but sometimes it’s true - see diamonds, or... old Omegas Seriously, it’s a lovely looking gem! Can’t wait to see a wristshot
Small case, blotchy dial, funny rectangular movement.......................I think you should unload it while you can still make a few pennies.
A thing of beauty. What’s your plan for it regarding servicing and strap selection? Very excited to see it once completed!
