somebody in the yema facebook forums made a mock up of this watch a year ago branded with yema. i commented on that this watch needed to be made. there was a market for it.

40.5mm is passable but the 51mm L2L kills it imo

pretty sure many are unhappy because of the size. i know i am..

then you have to endure the bs said by synchron saying that the divers benchmark is 50/51mm and even had the nerve to say that it wears well on a 6" wrist.

oh...btw...the below zrc is 40.5 and has a L2L of 49.

i have 7" wrist and i'm pretty maxed out at this size. after 20 years of trial and error and several frickers, a top heavy watch head with any overhang will eventually become a dust collector in your box

sadly, i will not be a player on a watch that i would love to own. need no to be this big. i will also won't go out on a limb and say most of your deep pocket spenders want smaller and it will lead to many people not buying it.

 

Cool looking watches, but the L2L is a variable many don't pay attention to and will make or break a watch. I have 42mm short lugged watches that wear like a dream and 42mm long lugged watches I can't stand becuase they hang off my wrists. Not to mention that for those of us with bony/knobby wrists (even though 7.25-7.5) that back lug can be painful if it's not sitting in the right place.
These smaller companies are going to have to realize that a design mistake like that will cost them dearly. And at that price point- the cliente is far pickier.

 

Mine should show up sometime this week, I've got huge wrists anyway but will have to report back I suppose.

I do have 50mm L2L watches and they seem just fine to me, I find that I like wearing them on NATOs with curved springbars rather than straps though.

 

I have been considering ordering the reissue . . . and now?

I had paid no attention to the L2L but today I feel that I'd be disappointed in the look.

My wrists are 6 7/8" and the largest watches I wear regularly are my two Sherpa Graphs. 40.2 mm dia. and 49.3 L2L. I do not think I ought to go any larger.

The height on the new Deepstar is 14.8 mm and that too in combination with the L2L will present a problem for some of us.

Once upon a time I bought a 40 mm dia. William L 1985 automatic chrono during a Quickstarter campaign. I paid no attention to the height which was supposed to be "about 15 mm" and when it arrived, it was a super-chunky 16.7 mm tall . . . and impossible to wear.

 

Had the same problem with my Marathon GSAR- loved the watch- totally smitten with it, only 41mm wide which was perfect for the form factor- but it was over 15mm thick. It sat way too tall on my wrist and I just couldn't do it. A member here happily took it off my hands and is loving it- so results may vary.

 

in addition to my zrc my heuer deep diver is prolly my last larger watch. it's aprox 41/42mm and the height/thickness is pretty massive. but it works being that L2L is around 45mm, while being a pretty big watch

so sad they had to go 51mm on this deepstar watch.

 

That's a great looking Heuer- and that case shape looks very comfortable.
This is one of my favorite large watches simply becuase it's almost square at 42.3x43 with a thickness of only 13mm.


Despite it being similarly sized to my Navitimer, Speedy or Tag, it is far more comfortable due to the short lugs and low profile.

It's the Mini-Turtle SRPC-37. I beleive they are now discontinued.

 

barrel cases are very underrated and extremely comfortable

 

They are still a bargain on the used market as they were kind of unloved- a real departure for Seiko, so the Seiko-philes shat all over it- crown at 3, cushion case, cyclops....all the things I love about it- they hated.
I think they are destined to be a classic- and they sadly had a short run.

Oh, and they have 3 reference numbers I beleive- SRPC-35, 37 & 39 depending on how they were optioned

 

It's definitely big, but I don't find the L2L distance to be an issue. The spring bar holes are very close to the case (you will definitely want curved bars for a NATO) which probably helps. It's heavy too but even at a new 40.5mm diameter it's for sure one of the more reasonably-sized modern dive chronos. It's also really nicely finished, feels very professionally done and high quality in a way that some of these micro-reeditions don't quite manage.

I am usually not into reissues, but I love this. The vintage Deepstar Chrono is very spendy and hard to find in good condition. I am definitely going to consider... Thanks for the posts..... M
