Thought I would post my entrance into the Speedmaster club as there's a bit of a story behind my purchase. Pictured is a 145.022-69ST "straight writing". This example was for sale at an auction in LA, which I found using an auction app. It had only one really poor picture, from which very little could be seen. The watch was only listed as "Omega Speedmaster" with no further info. I requested additional pictures from the auction house and received a reply that they wouldn't be able to provide any for a specific item. I replied that I wouldn't be bidding. To my surprise, 3 days before the auction I opened my email to find 8 additional pictures, including of the movement, case interior, lugs, bracelet and, most importantly caseback. Meaning, that I was the only bidder not physically at the auction who knew this was a "straight writing" with original 1039 bracelet. Final auction price: $1,600!!! I think that's a hell of a buy but would love to hear the opinion of members. Cheers, SJG
I think on ebay right now as is it would probably double. That is a great catch, and I love hearing how people with application and diligence find these bargains. Well done.
Thanks - runs well now but it's going to Al at Archer (who happens to be based an hour from me) in March. Crystal has been replaced with aftermarket, so will be restored to OEM.
What a nice find on the straight writing 145.022-69, especially with the 1039 bracelet! A friend recently found same model without bracelet via Craigslist. Involved some travel time, but turned out to be well worth it! Congratulations and welcome to the club! Beware, Speedmaster's can be addictive
