Hi.. What’s the chances of there being a 50th anniversary of the moon landing next year? (Ltd edition)
If not for the non-stop marketing Omega has been doing the last ten years, and the boost the watch has seen thanks to the internet blog/watch forum cults, the watch would have stayed in the mediocre status it had for decades. They will milk this for all its worth.
Well how many newish Speedmaster Pros would people buy if there were only the standard model? It's not like people would buy a new one every year or two. But with LEs, etc. they sell and sell again to those who would otherwise only buy one.
I'd say the regular Speedmaster Pro is pretty much at the bottom of my speedmaster box these days. The other releases are just more fun to wear for me. I for one am hoping for a great LE!
me too.... I even added a vintage bracelet to my regular Speedy Pro to spice things up a bit but sadly, it gets the least wear time. it should be out of this world!
Omega posted this photo on their Instagram page with the comment: "The first watch worn on the moon." The tease begins?
What if Omega discontinued the Big Box Moonwatch entirely, and replaced it with: - New movement of 1321 (an entirely new, improved 321) - Step dial - Applied metal logo - Slightly changed bezel font and caseback - Everything else kept the same - Non-limited but trickled supply like Rolex/Patek SS, because 1321 production can't keep up with demand
I forgot. This photo was on their Instagram 2 days ago with the comment: "#Moonwatch There are many sides to the #Speedmaster story."
Indeed, that may turn out to be a new healthy cow for Omega to milk for another 50 years. See the present Speedy format is perhaps overused for LE series. Omega should do something different yet closer to its vintage roots. There is a huge battalion of collectors to stand in queue if it appeals to their taste.
I think that is the first link, and the new Speedmaster bracelet links are screwed in, compared to pins in previous iteration.
OK, after today's Instagram post, which is the Omega video using "First Man" and real space program excerpts, I'm not sure if Omega is using Instagram to tease a 50th Anniversary watch or promoting the "First Man" movie and highlighting Omega's involvement. I probably jumped the gun.
