😲😲😲

🤦

@AgentHipolito , if you are a real person, I would advise you stop responding and first take the time to learn how things work around here and to digest all the input you have received so far. Stop being tone deaf.

This is a forum of true watch enthusiasts and we typically loathe people who want to make a profit on our backs!!

Lastly, please do not insult some of the most valuable members of this esteemed forum. :whipped:

I understand.

I came here to learn from gentlemen who are open to educating ambitious men like myself.
Welcome to Omega Forum Hipolito. This is a forum of collectors and enthusiasts. Although I appreciate your candor with your plans to buy low and sell high, the term used in collector circles is a “flipper”. There isn’t much love for flippers in the collector community as it puts you in direct competition with us and drives up the market rate on watches we love to collect. Members here are very savvy on how to broker their own watches for top dollar- so this is not a place where you would gain much in the way of inventory. Several of our long standing members are professional dealers, so you would also be in direct competition with them.
If you’re goal is to learn what makes certain watches special, what collectors value and how to differentiate junk from treasure- without any other agenda- then you have come to the right place. The community here is a fantastic group of people who love to share. But there is one thing people here do not abide and that’s an opportunist.
I hope you spend some time here and engage in the conversations- watches are a passion here obviously. But if this is strictly a business venture- you may not receive a very warm welcome...as you have already seen.

Damn. I seriously thought it was a bot generated post but reading the WUS thread, I now understand there is a real person behind. Now I feel guilty for making fun and not making him feel more welcome 😟

To OP:
Welcome Sir, I can’t wait to see your inventory.

Hopefully that didn’t sound wrong 😲

I respect the way you guys feel 100% thank you for verifying account! Thank you sir

I'm sorry, I know I'm new here so I don't have much ground to stand on and point fingers, but if this isn't post farming, what is?? 👎
These are just off of *one* page in this thread. 😵‍💫

I’d say this is just about right on the line of post farming but not quite there. While his comments are short and relatively meaningless (in regards to substance) (and would be better if he compiled them all in one collective response), they are acknowledgments to the comments left to him. At this rate it is also unlikely he will have much success in a sales section anyways.

As to the typical post farmer, you’ll see they often bring up old (several year old) threads in rapid succession with random comments that add zero value.

For example: thread Title-
Father passed away and I inherited his watch
Post farmer: Congrats! Nice find!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I would like to wish you the best of luck with your venture. It's a tough cookie to crack. I expect you already know that there are thousands out there who have the same idea. What are you planning to do that makes your venture more likely to succeed? Rolex are difficult to get hold of. What is an aftermarket watch? Are you planning on becoming a grey dealer? Do you have a client base already? I don't think a watch forum like this is going to bring you much in the way of customers and even fewer who would be willing to sell to you, atleast at prices that would make it worth your while. Anyway, no harm in trying I suppose and if it doesn't work out I am sure you have lots of other ideas that might bring home the prize. Good luck.

I don't think he knows what a watch is yet. He's just following the example in the "business plan" which probably used "watches" as the product. 😜😜😜

Hello Hipolito,

I was googling your name and I can see you are really good in American football. Cool. Do you still play?

I can also see you're quite young so I have the feeling you could learn a couple of things, especially how to network. My advice would be, first do some research which group of people you need to connect with for your business plans. Then, try to feel the vibe of the people you are trying to connect with. Do some research. What's the best way to approach them so you can do business with them. And in this context I would like to ask you. Did you researched and followed OF before your first post? Do you have the feeling your first post was the best way to introduce yourself? I'm asking this because OF is primary a collectors forum with people who love watches. Flipping watches just to gain profit is'nt seen as the best value on OF. So network wise it would have been better to approach OF in a different manner. So maybe this is a good lesson for you and your future business plans. Know your network and know your customers.

I was wondering, why do you want to start a business in selling watches? What are you studying right now?

Guys, I feel you're being a bit tough on the OP. He's trying to start a business and make a living. Give him a break on that.

He's being transparent: he's here to learn. I see no reason why this shouldn't be a place for him to learn, amongst other sources. Just because he wants to use his learning to get his career moving, does that make him less welcome than anyone else? There are many traders and dealers here. As long as he participates in the community with the right spirit I can't see a problem and it's too early to say that he's just here to take and not give.

He's made it clear that he's at least a year away from trading so the accusation of post-farming is a little unfair. Furthermore, he said he is looking to buy low and sell at retail. I think that means he knows he's unlikely to sell within this forum, but he may be able to buy, because it seems to me that prices here are sometimes much lower for some pieces than retailers ask. Aren't all dealers flippers, and do we exclude dealers from buying from here? If a dealer thinks they can make a profit on a piece here surely that's their call, maybe they have a customer they know will pay above top dollar for a certain piece that the dealer can pick up here for "the right price". Having customers waiting, and being able to link those customers to the dealer's network of collectors who sell watches is where they rightly make their profit. Nothing wrong with that. And if he is able to buy cheap enough elsewhere to sell here, who's complaining?

Many years ago I worked in recruitment. The first lesson I learned was that recruiters don't charge for the time they put into making a placement, and they don't factor into a fee all the work they do for the placements they don't make. They charge for access to their network. The key to nearly every business is to build a network and to work it well. That's all the OP is trying to do and while he may be being a little clumsy, I see nothing malevolent in him.

Time will tell, of course, if he's here to be a contributing part of this community or to just to use it.
