    Hi everyone,

I really need your expert knowledge and help...
I just bought my first Omega Vintage Seamaster but I'm still struggling with some issues -let me explain:

The Omega Vintage Catalouge says that the dial and cal562 are from a 14701 and the case of a 14700 (gold-cap on steel). On this omega vintage database there is no such a combination listed.
Also weird is that on the case back the number 14700 is struck through and replaced by 14701 - that would make sense to the combination I just explained but here is my question: does anyone know whether Omega really did that (used old cases, struck through the Ref# and replaced it)?

I can still return this watch so please let me know whether I should do so or keep it.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Welcome Karl. Pictures will really helpful in summoning good advice.
Yes, I've heard Omega do this practice before in their vintage watches.
OVD is far from complete. Many variation are not recorded.
Other more expert will chime in.

Thanks for those first answers - yes I gave myself the bunny ::facepalm2::

I have another problem: I can't upload pictures - I have them all ready and wanted them to upload to give you more input - but it just doesn't work :(

Anything I have to be aware of according to size, format, etc.?
    Any suggestions?

Now it worked...here we go: some pictures of that Seamaster.

Additional news: 5 minutes ago I called an official Omega Store in Germany and talked to their senior watch maker who told me, that Omega did this quite often in the past.
Anybody here in the Forum with a similar case back?

Any further comments are highly appreciated!
    Thanks

Looks okay, except you covered the most important letter in Seamaster - the shape of the S is very important, although from what little I can see it's appears to be the correct coathanger shape.

The serial number might be okay - it looks to be early 60's. The last time Omega used that shape S was around 1962 or 1963.

Format JPEG (other like bmp and png also works), size below 500 Kb per picture (I think the limit is 5 Mb but you are killing people who try to see your pictures).
Upload by clicking the camera symbol button next to Post reply button, browse the file in the folder and click Open. Once the miniature picture appears above the Post Reply button, click the Insert button at bottom of miniature picture......... You are ready to post your picture

This is correct. There are several examples of different refs sharing the case back. In many cases Omega would strike out the early ref and indicate the new ref number. Here are some examples:

A post by Blaise on WUS shows a case back of a 176.007 that was converted from the earlier 176.001 ref:

    Another example from this forum:

Other examples I have seen are 165.014 and 165.024 cases

Depends on if you like it at the price you paid. The dial sure seems nice, and that's my primary concern with just about any vintage watch.
