Hi, I have a Longines UltraChron watch I am considering putting up for sale. Normally my focus is with Eterna, Omega and Lemania. I take pride in not trying to fool anyone when selling on a watch, and I would like to hear from the expertise in here if everything looks ok? Any advice on items I should point out to a potential new owner?? So far I have noticed that the rear lid has inscriptions and looks a tad over polished. I picked it up on eBay some time ago, and it has just been sitting in a box since. Seems to run ok with an amplitude of 287 and +6 sec/day. Any advice and warnings welcome. I would like to keep my path clean, and I am on thin ice with Longines!
Everything looks in order to me. This is the later Ultra-Chron with the Cal. 6651, 28,800vph movement. If this was the earlier cal. 431, I'd be sending you a PM. But I already have a watch with this movement. A little bit overpolished, but otherwise a very nice watch. gatorcpa
Looks okay, although I'd want a better macro of the dial from head on to assess the fonts. It's a post 1972 caliber 6651 with the slower bph as gator points out, most likely mid to late 70's. The selling point is less maintenance / service hassles. The thicker C-case and similar styles of Ultra-Chrons were all in the 8xxx series of case references so that checks out too. Odds are the buckle is aftermarket since there are sooooo many of that type around that aren't authentic Longines, so unless you can be sure it's original to the watch you might not want to tout it as original. That case shape is fairly large compared to other 3 hand watches of the era so it wears more modern. Not too shabby.
Hi! Thank you for your good advice and comments! A "straight on" pic of the dial from when I bought it is enclosed. I hope this checks out ok?!
Warning! Warning! Danger Will Robinson! I'd be a bit concerned about the apparent misalignment of the lettering relative to the applied winged logo.
Hi Guys! A bit embarrassed (actually a bit more than a little) that I did not see this myself. The watch has been sitting in a box and never caught on with me. Never took the time to study it, and I photographed it together with 10-15 other watches. I will mark it as redialed, and post these pictures as part of the description when I post it on the bay. I would like to thank all of you for spotting this one. I would hate to ruin my reputation selling of something like this claiming it was original. Looking at it from more than 10cm away it does still look rather ok but......
