I inherited this Datejust and just wanted to verify that it is authentic and not a fake. If it is authentic, some help figuring out the model and stuff would be great! I'd love to add this to the collection as a potential daily.
Model number is between the lugs at 12 o'clock, serial number between the lugs at 6. Looks very much identical to my 16220 X series, 36mm, also on a jubilee.
I'm quite concerned about some aspects of the dial. For example, the coronet logo looks terribly crooked and the font looks sloppy. The lugs also do not appear to be the correct shape. I'm thinking it's probably a fake.
I would have the back opened just to be sure, but the case geometry seems wrong and the machining on the bezel seems very rough.
Might be a Frankenstein - a lot of those of these DJ - post a movement shot I’d you can - they barely have a gen movement.
Agree with Dan. At first glance something just seemed- off. No numbers on the endlinks either which speaks to generic endlinks or fake bracelet- a shot of the clasp (stamping on the inside) would help too. You can use a safety pin in the ends of the spring bar and holes to remove the bracelet. The model and serial should be under there.
Indeed the lugs do not seem to have the correct curve. Date is not central in date window but blamed that on the hands being nearly at 12 o'clock. Not sure about the font and coronet as the pics are rather blurry.
Would be intersting to take the back off and see what’s inside. You can usually use a back removal ball to get these off 85% of the time without having to get the special Rolex removal tool
I was gonna say, if it runs and keeps time, wear it and enjoy not caring it you trash it. The DJ’s actually look boss on a Nato or leather nato strap is you want to dress it down for causal wear
It definitely works so I think I'll hang on to it and maybe daily it along with my SARB. You mentioned a back removal ball, where can I find that?
I can't get the back off of some watches with the ball if they were tightened with a wrench by He-Man, but most come free with this. Ideally you use a proper spanning wrench to do it, but in this case, the wrench will cost more than the value of the watch.
