    Hi,

After a long search I stumbled upon a very nice looking vintage automatic Omega. Since I dont't have the budget for a good looking vintage Seamaster yet I decided to buy this one for a good price. From what I can see it looks legit, authenthic i'm just not sure about the model. It looks like a Geneve but it doesn't say it on the dial. Can anybody give me some more info? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    Hello
It has a Geneve caseback with an automatic 562 movement. They were produced in the late 60s and one would expect to see Geneve on the lower side of the dial. You can find them with cleaner dials than yours but as long as you like it that is the important thing. You might want to get it serviced.

My concern about this watch is the movement. Neither the Omega Vintage Database nor Naligazone lists ref. 166.041 as having a cal. 562; both only list cal. 565. Neither is 100% accurate but that information would prompt me to do a lot more research.

Yes, this is concerning. Does this happen more often? Does this mean I probably bought a Frankenstein? Again thanks for sharing al your knowledge, much appreciated.

As I said, neither source is 100% accurate; Omega may have put 562s in that reference. Hopefully, one of the more knowledgeable members knows the answer.

The case back clearly states it is a 166.041 whicj comes up with an automatic geneve, and these all, seem to use the 565 cal. An omega seamaster166.010 for example, used the 562 cal. So you might have a geneve with the wrong movement or a seamaster with the wrong case back. All in all its probably better to give this one a miss.

Since you have already purchased it, I would see if you can get a refund.

The issue is the dating. Your Geneve case design was circa 1968, while the transitional years moving from the 562 to 565 were a few years earlier. The approximate date of your movement is 1964 so it seems unlikely, although not impossible, that a movement that old would have been put in a new design, some 4 years later. If you like the watch and it runs well, keep it. If you're going to ask for opinions then be prepared for an answer you may not like. Either way, I would recommend doing your research before you buy.

Regarding the link: There's nothing there that contradicts anything that's been said here.

Based on photos of ref 166.041, I'm voting it's a Geneve with the wrong movement. https://www.omegawatches.com/planet...ache=1&cHash=db979a98ed50d80c93c53e983b0c6913

Or a somewhat rare opinion. Looks neat, enjoy it. It's an Omega someone put a different Omega movement in. It won't win awards with collectors wear it and by happy with it. It's still a neat vintage Omega.

What do you exactly mean by a rare opinion? Thanks

Never seen them with cal. 562, The vintage database states cal. 565, and the model is from late 60's and early 1970's, i dont think they used the old cal. 562 that late. Im also not sure about the dial, they use to have Geneve on them. Maybe dial and movement is from an other watch/reference
