What era are these 2998 hands from?

I was interested and asked the seller who said that he didn't know the exact date of manufactor but that the lume was definitely luminova. That would make these post 1995, replacement or replica hands, I believe. Yet they sold for big bucks as if they were vintage

    I'm confused.

The OP hands have square ends at each end of both lume hands, so these are new hands at at a vastly inflated price.

I cannot see the length in the Ebay hands, but they may be short too. Or not - Omega does I think supply correct length ones - but still they have the new shape lume.

The second pair above are Seamaster replacements, but similar to the Omega supplied ones of the correct size. Note the square lume ends.

The seller of the ebay hands is an Omega parts dealer, that will no longer get parts in future due to Omega's policy change. These parts are possibly simply parts ordered from Omega recently. They say they have some old stock, but I would hesitate to buy these thinking they were old.

To put it another way, I did not even consider these, and I require three sets of 2998 hands.

I agree they certainly look like the hands I can order from Omega now - whole set is about $90 or so...

I bought a 2998 a couple of years ago. It was serviced by Omega (before I bought it). Omega switched the old alpha hands and put on these new ones. Well, the watch looks like new - but obviously it lost a lot of its character (and after doing research I found out how rare these hands are.... I spent some nights crying about the old hands Omega just threw away!!! Pics follow....

then I wrote a letter to Omega saying that I was crying all day and could not sleep anymore because my toy was not like it should be....::shy::
and then they agreed to switch the hands to this (well at least they did the switch for free). 2998.jpg

I forgot - these hands that are mounted now are the same as have been sold lately on eBay (watchco) - as others stated - they are modern replacements (luminova) and can be ordered at Omega.
Sad story - but I like my watch anyway - it has got a great story (with a lot of drama) - and at least the dial and the almost perfect DON are really cool. Movement and anything else are also original.

@Archer better order a few of those $90 handsets if they're worth $723 on eBay.

Sorry I forgot - the bezel was almost perfect BEFORE it was sent to OMEGA (as you can see on the picture) - the ding at 150 was done during the OMEGA-service...

Watchco essentially practices arbitrage for most of the items they sell - no problems with that as a business model but items like this one are just misrepresented.

Hmm, I dont like that description. Its not incorrect as such, buts it omits to say they're actually new and implies they've been sat ona drawer since the 60's.

That would be me. Still keeping fabulous time. Amortize over 30 years. I'm going to put those alpha hands on my Speemaster, I think the set is less than $100 from Otto Frei.

    Tom

(Again, if anyone has proof that the caliber 552 in my "new" Seamaster is not NOS, I'd love to hear it.)
