I know nothing about it but can't imagine anyone would fake something this obscure.

They are, as far as I know, completely legit.
    I own two different ones.
Lemania, as most other watch companies at the time, played around with the new and revolutionary technology.
The movement is a Pulsar early LED module.
Loads of info, and repair options (!) here:

Saw the top photo and almost had to laugh, then I scrolled through and became fascinated. No idea a venerable mechanical brand like Lemania had ever even considered jumping the LED train—they must have been pretty desperate back then. Came across another (maybe more questionable) example on a digital watch forum, not much else to find. But then: what could ever have been the use of faking these?

I don’t think embracing new technology is desperate. In the early 1970s digital watches were the advanced technology of the moment.

The only reason mechanical watches are what luxury brands concentrate on now is because quartz can be made to a higher standard and more economically in the Far East.

Nouveau Lemania was set up after Omega bought the original company(I think?) and had some interesting quartz analogue/digital watches.

Watch collectors have been conditioned to look down on quartz by the Swiss watch industry, mostly without justification.

Lets face it. In the cold light of day quartz does exactly what you want of a watch, cheaply and extremely accurately. If we bought what we need using our brains we would all wear good quality quartz watches, likely Citizen Ecodrives to save on “maintenance”

but out hearts rule, so we wear these beautiful but flawed, high maintenance, expensive machines which don’t keep time quite as well and go down hill from there.

and we’re better for it because they make us happy...

i think I’ll go wind up a nice Waltham Vanguard now.

still... cool, weird, horrible LED watch... wouldn’t mind having one

I will join you, but by enjoying one of the more exclusive quartz watches I have.

And it’s keeping the correct time, judging by the £10 humidity and temperature gauge that I trust more than any of my actual watches! 3D63B387-5C43-46BC-AB4E-73D5BB559E8C.jpeg

Nouvelle Lemania was the name used by Lemania after SSIH/Swatch was forced to sell whatever they could in order to avoid collapse and bankruptcy.
Lemania was sold to a group consisting of the management with funds from the Piaguet family.
    Omega have never owned Lemania.
(A fun fact is that Lemania owned Heuer for a while.....
    )

Not desperate but always looking for what could be the future of the industry.
Remember that Lemania was involved in industrial and sports timers as well. Mechanical timers were like horses after the car emerged.
In any application where precision is key, mechanical timers and time keeping devices are a relic of the past. Very cool and collectable relics....:)

That’s a better description, I am confusing the SSIH/Swatch group with Omega.

*edit and bought/sold. Minor details ha ha

Spot on - calling this move "desperate" is like saying car companies are desperate for putting airbags and anti-lock brakes/traction control on their cars. People sometimes forget that this industry was all about timekeeping, and anything that advanced the goal of better timekeeping was anything but "desperate" to the people doing the job at the time. There was a time when the accuracy of a watch had to be paid for, but quartz (once economies of scale kicked in) made that premise obsolete, and that's when companies focused more on the luxury aspect of watches.

We are collectors of very expensive, highly tuned anachronistic devices no longer needed in the modern world as technology has surpassed them long ago.

Ok, I stand corrected @Northernman and @Archer . Allow me to clarify, though. What I was referring to is Lemania producing a digital LED display watch that is more of a fashion item, rather than an instrument. I understand and appreciate how innovative movement producers like Lemania wish to ameliorate the precision of their instruments, and this way end up embracing quartz. Lemania produced some pretty cool “hybrid” chronograph in the 1980s.

But again this misses the point that this wasn't in fact a fashion item. It was a watch using the latest timekeeping technology that surpassed any mechanical watches accuracy at the time.

Ok, I wasn’t aware of that. I saw a 1970s case shape and a black LED screen and automatically assumed Lemania produced it as a fashion accessory. Thanks for clarifying!

You’d be surprised what people are faking!
    But these are legit.
