Hello all. I recently came upon a vintage seamaster from a friend as it would be the perfect Holiday gift for my grandfather. Trying to keep it a surprise, I do not want to ask my grandfather for his opinion so I am hoping you knowledgeable folks can help me out as to figure out the authenticity and quality of the piece.

From what I know, it is a 1958 Automatic Seamaster. Omega 17 jewel cal.471. It is triple signed, but from what I understand, that could be interpreted many ways based on which parts it references.

I know that seller -- have bought a few from him as well in the past.

Regarding that piece, personally I would try to find one with less disturbing dial patina, especially if it is to be a gift.

How much would it cost to refinish the dial approximately?

You could probably find a much better example for only a little less than the price of that watch + the cost of taking it apart & refinishing the dial.
