    Hi

    Its a 1955 Omega Seamaster
    Caliber: 501
    Serail: 14690231
    Case: 2846-2 SC

Looks to be in pretty good state and the numbers add up as far as I could find out.
However I´d appreciate a more experts opinion on the matter.
What is a correct price for this watch.

    Thanks for the help

Serial number puts it in the middle of the 50's. That dial was probably added later as indicated by the rounded shape of the "S" which we see in the 60's and onward. I would have expected a Coathanger shaped S (like the one in my picture). I would not buy this watch given that. Would you still be interested?

Just need someone else to confirm my suspicions...

If you do an eBay search of sold listings, you'll find quite a few and their selling price.

An eBay search won't really help determine value of this particular watch... but it will help you see that all the dials of the reference of your watch do have a coathanger shaped S.

No but it will tell you what they are selling for. The value of that particular watch is up to the OP.

::confused2:: The watch is incorrect, ebay sold listings of correct watches of this reference will not help determine the value of one with a replaced dial.

Read my edit. I'll let you take center stage; you seem to want that.

Just trying to give OP sound advice! I would hate for him to pay what most ebay sold listings indicate!

At first glance, the dial looks fine to me but, I'm on my phone. Compare to the one here which has an earlier serial and is correct. The S in the OP post looks the same as mine but different to the 60s models. I think they went curvy-coathanger-different curvy. If that makes sense!

    Cheers, Chris

I'm not so sure you're correct. I have been able to find several examples of 2846 cases with curved S dating from the mid to late 50s. There was definitely overlap between the coat hanger S and curved S but can't seem to find anything that states definitively, when the curved S made its debut. If you have something that disproves this, I'm willing to learn.

Watches I've owned show the following:

    13.8 million serial:
    early S.png

    14.9 million serial:
    not so early.jpg

    16.6 million serial:
    mid dial.jpg

    23.0 million serial:
    later S.png

There are others with different S fonts again and I might try and look some up. However, there are far bigger collectors who could probably add to this thread better than me:D. Clearly though with the @BenBagbag dial above, there are 5 variations in 10 years or so. It's an interesting topic.

Seems like the OP is selling so, my estimate would be 500 of your currency if it's dollars, euros or pounds. Depends on whether it's going to be serviced before sale.

    Cheers, Chris

A head on shot of the dial is always prefer to asses a dial, but as far as the S in Seamaster goes, that shape can period correct as @ChrisN writes. Seems Omega couldn't make up there mind during that period ;)

I feel like the dial is (probably) original considering how close the font is to the early seamaster font. My only gripe is that the crown looks kind of beat up, but I'm not well versed in these early seamasters, so I can't really give a price estimate.

    Hi Guys

This watch looks original to my eyes.... Its not a question of what it is worth....
What is the seller asking ? ..... and was it serviced etc...? the crowd when then vote , yes i would buy it for that or not.... if not what ? but that is later....

Dial is aged original to the watch also .... in my opinion...

The case looks good , you can even read the lightly etched Seamaster / Waterproof on the caseback..

The lugs have it edging , bezel looks good too.... crown well it wound it alot.. it would not bother me..

    Good Hunting

this is really interesting stuff. I feel like there has gotta be a thread somewhere here about this. I was thinking of the nicely rounded S from the 23 mil serial. Always glad to learn!
