hi experts, can you help to check if this looks legit? I'm negotiating with a seller in Japan for this piece.
From what I can see it looks all proper. A head-on dial shot and an image of the movement would be useful.
thanks Lou, I will try to get 1 front shot from the seller but from my research the hour markers have a vertical line for A783? this one doesnt which i find odd...
You are right but I have seen rare exceptions, and I cannot imagine how else this would happen if it were not a factory variant. A cursory review of the database shows 1 out of 10 examples with similar markers. Of course, the A 781 & 782 have the markers like this one. I'm imagining a screwup at the dial manufacturer.
Sorry but i don't get what you mean by review of the database? Are you able to determine the authenticity if the serial number can be provided? The seller did provide me with the serial off the caseback which he can't capture on his camera "019 E 671"
I keep a database of early El Primeros for reference - 1 out of 10 A783s have line-less markers. That serial number is within an accepted range for the A783. The other explanation besides factory variant is of course a service dial - all speculation of course.
The lume plots on the dial look very clean versus the lume on the hands, especially the chrono seconds. Service dial?
