Hi everyone,

My father has this Seiko model 6139-6002. It isn’t working, and so, needs to be fixed and serviced. Besides that, the metal strap is broken and the crown isn’t the original one (see pictures please). My first question is, do you think the model is worth the investment? If so, would you look for a new original strap or stick with this one? For the crown, i really need to get an original one. Could you please recommend me someone who sells original seiko parts? I’ve searched over eBay but, you know, i always get the feeling that i could possibly be dealing with reproductions.

Hey Predro. Nice watch your father has. You're correct about the crown, but otherwise it looks good.
It's hard to find new parts for these, but seller schillachi61 on eBay carries a lot of NOS Seiko parts. He doesn't list them all so you could contact him through eBay to ask if he has a correct crown if he doesn't have one up. Otherwise, decent AM ones are available on eBay too.
Who to send it to depends on what continent you're located on. If in the US, google Spencer Klein. If in Europe, Duncan (google thewatchbloke) is your man. If in Australia or Asia go to vintagetimeaustralia.com and speak to Adrian. There are others, but these guys are considered vintage Seiko repair gurus.
Whether it's worth the investment is up to you, you'll need to spend at least a couple of hundred dollars for a service, and each can supply gaskets and a crystal at a reasonable cost.

It's definitely worth the money, these blue Pogues are going up in value. I prefer them to the gold/yellow ones but they have that cool aspect of being a space watch (Skylab 1974, Colonel Pogue - try to find a October 1974 National Geographic).

Spencer Klein at Klein Vintage Watch is a master in the Seiko restoration field.

 

I'd echo the above - it's worth fixing, though you might spend as much doing so as it's worth, but then you'd have a lovely watch with sentimental value...

Be careful about just buying a crown/stem - there are different variants within the 6139 and there are also some aftermarket style ones out there that don't fit properly. If you get the watch to a suitable service person/company (where are you in the world?) then they should be able to sort that out. You could get an old President style bracelet and fit it onto those endlinks - or for the same sort of outlay, get a great new www.uncleseiko.com president bracelet.

 

Well worth investing in , and definitely an appreciating classic. It might be worth looking at ebay again & try to find a donor watch for the parts, as sometimes the cost of spares cost more than a complete watch .And plenty of great quality bracelets available too.

ewand, I'm in Portugal. I normally take all my watches to a local watch repairer I know. I trust him, he has also done a good job on servicing my Omega Constellation. He works a lot with high-end pieces, but I don't know if he is familiar with Seikos. I will probably take the watch to him, if he somehow turns to be reluctant on doing the job I think he would be honest and let me know. Who knows if he has some of the parts i need? If you think I should skip that and send to some specialist like the ones who were tipped here let me know please. And thanks for the strap suggestions, will definitely check those!

 

Stefan (schillachi61) is your go to guy for sure on Ebay. Spencer Klein has recently stopped taking on new work as has Seth at Hub City. Hickman in the U.K. also does servicing. You should definitely put some money in to your dads watch, they are very popular right now. You can find a crown trust me I have found several. You can find a proper bracelet that will either be original Seiko ($$$) or aftermarket which still looks fine. I highly recommend the H Link bracelet from "Uncle Seiko", great quality and looks good too!

I appreciate it's difficult sending a watch to another country but he's brilliant with Seikos and can tell you in advance if he can sort out the issues with the watch.

 

Or try @Sir Alan on here: he's serviced 4 or 5 Pogues for me and did a great job. He is on Wrist Sushi as well, and there will be other people over there who also have spare parts if needed
