Hello everyone!

New to the community, and I could use your help deciding on a gift for my dad.
I found this Seamaster 600, ref. 136.011 for 800€, but I'm not very knowledgeable.

1) Does it look legit?
2) Do you think it's a good deal? Seller is a watchmaker who serviced the watch recently (he includes a picture of the timegrapher: +6 s/d, 300 degrees of amplitude, and 0.2 ms of beat error).

Any input you might provide is helpful, as well as any other recommendations.
Thank you all very much!

Watch looks legit, gold plated case in pretty good condition with fair amount of bubbling on dial common with this watch. The 600 is a pretty basic hand winding model with a simple reliable movement.
Price is high but not crazy, for that price you can find a better Seamaster automatic in equal or better condition. The 600 goes for around 450-500 USD on eBay in good condition. Add 200 for value of service that’s around 700 USD. If your seller watchmaker will give a decent service warranty then that helps.
Will your dad want a manual wind or automatic? Will he mind the dial bubbling? It tends to be much less visible on the wrist.

Yes I would agree with @SOG53 that’s quite a high price for what’s on offer. I have a very similar Reference: 135.011, Cal: 601, from 1965 which I love. It’s in great condition, runs amazingly, and is very versatile but only cost $450 USD.

If it was in steel and had a good dial the price would be ok with the service (if documented and not just the sellers word).
However, gold plate is the least desirable/valuable case material and the dial has deteriorated. There’s plenty of sm600’s about with good dials so no reason to accept one or pay a premium for one with a poor dial

Thanks for the response! The seller is willing to give a 6 month warranty on the movement, would that be enough?
If so, I'll try to negotiate it down to 700.

Regarding the model, I really like the case shape and dial color/effect on this one, but i'm willing to look into other references with similar dial and case shape. Do you have any recommendations? Either manual or automatic is fine.

What a beautiful watch!
Did the $450 price include a recent service or did you have to get it serviced after purchase? If so, how much did it cost you?

Service is documented and given a 6 month warranty on the movement. The gold plating is also something I looked for, but i'm also not against steel.

If you had to buy this one, how much would you be willing to pay?
Also, do you have any other recommendations for models that have similar case shape and dial?

Thank you for your input!

Well that’s my point, you don’t have to buy it. It’s a choice. Personally unless it was something rare like a Triple Date Moonphase, I wouldn’t accept spotting on a dial. With a bit of extra time or money you can always find a better one so why settle.

If I had to put a market price on the OP watch I’d say about £300 for the watch plus £200 for a service. So £500 or around €550. While I think that’s around the market price, I wouldn’t pay that. Again, I’d rather wait or pay more for a better dial.

Regarding references, 136.011’s are great as they are plentiful, robust and available in a range of dial varieties. If you prefer an automatic, the nearest ref is probably the 166.002. Both are great watches.

Case is very worn, down to copper base.
