Seller is saying its a 2000 but it has a Tritium case, cannot tell the serial # on the movement and neither behind the lug. Need some help into determining what year this speedmaster is thanks! http://www.ebay.com/itm/122743943528?rmvSB=truePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
The first digit of the serial appears to be a '4', while all of the rest of the digits are clearly visible on the lug. A serial number of 48M dates the watch to 1985, which is consistent with a Tritium dial, as you noted.
It's Pre '96 because it has both tritium and and 861. Based on what I can see of the serial number, I, guessing it's from 1992 or 1993.
Not necessarily, it seems that towards the later part of that period the non-serif DNN began to appear with shorter letters. See the Apollo XI 25th Anniversary (of 1994) for reference: (photo from google) It also appears this bezel was used on the Grail reference too.
I believe the 633 ends are stamped and not lazer engraved and the bracelet appears to be an original 1171 not a modern1171-1. I also believe that a 1171-1 with lazer engraved ends would be correct for a '90s model. If it come with an original vintage 1171w/633s Are my beliefs correct?
You can see the serial number so plug it in on this site and you'll get a better idea of when it was produced. https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/
My question is: the serial number it's in correct position on that case? On all my Omega the serial on the case it's parallel with the edge..
Not correct. 1992-1995. My guess is 1992 or 1993. If it's from 1984 (it's not) the dial and bezel are incorrect. In any case, I think it's a bit overpriced; while I'm sure any tritium dial Speedmaster will trade at a minimum of $3500-4000 in the future, right now even with the bracelet I'd look to pay a couple hundred less.
If I may ask how can you tell the difference between a '92-'95 as opposed to a 1984. Apparently the serial # starts with 45
Dial, bezel, and case are from an early '90s watch. The photos show that the movement and case serial number read 48280680 (as pictured in the listing), which is estimated by ilovemyspeedmaster.com to be early 1992.
