    Hello fellow geeks

I have my eyes set on this one. https://www.chrono24.dk/omega/speedmaster---mens-1984---qpc--id9982734.htm

    What are your thoughts?

I think the dial and case looks great. The bracelet looks crisp and correct for the period, however i don't know if it's a service-bracelet mounted later. Has the hands been changed too? I know it's queite normal for the hands to patinate a bit less than the makers on the dial, and the center chronograph seconds also have a bit of a patinated color, but i still think it looks like service-hands.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

Are you sure it is from 1984?

Dial is 90s and bezel too.

Not sure at all - that's just what was stated in the sales ad. Are you positive that it's from the 90's?

    100% not dial from 1984.

Ask for serial number of movement. At least first 3 numbers.

    Hi @Jtalleruphuus,

1984 is a great year, in my entirely unbiased opinion. ;)

A few years ago, I’ve found my own “1984” Speedy. Perhaps this picture helps, on the left a supposedly a late 80’s Speedmaster, on the right what is now my own (turned out to be early 1985).

The bezel and the accent on tachymetre as well as the font used on the dial (Speedmaster) might help. Good luck finding your own!

Thanx, that's actually really helpful! What about this one: https://www.chrono24.dk/omega/speedmaster--moonwatch-42mm-1984-manual-chrono-861--id7711868.htm

I think the bezel and fond looks more like a 1984 here :)

    Glad it helps.

To your question on the last watch you mention; Yes, the bezel looks more like it. The dial looks newer, though. Just compare the shape of the letter S in Speedmaster. You’ll notice the difference. ;)

@Jtalleruphuus are you near Aalborg? You can borrow my copy of Speedmaster Only if you'd like. That will help you sort out which details to look for.

Wauw, that's a great piece. I notice how the "40" in the sub-dial at 9 o'clock is visually remarkably larger than on the later versions. Also the missing ` on Tachymetre and the fond of "Speedmaster" which is slightly more crooked. Thanks (y)

Sure, I'll get around to it later today - I am going to Ballerup later this month I guess (sister in-law is due to give birth around that time) and if I remember it, I'll PM you then :D

Hi. Both watches you suggest are definitely not -84’s but early “90’s” models. They all have the short S instead of the high S for a 81-88. the first one has the smaller and wider “Tachymetre” font as well as a serial inscripted outside the case. And both have the later 90’s bracelet. Here’s my -82 serial as an comparison. The 84’s should look exactly like this one.

Thank you. I think it looks great and the case looks good too. Im fine with having a newer bracelet, as long as it's in good condition and it's not the "newest" version.

I've negotiated the price down to 3600 €, but have a feeling this is still a bit too high?

Yeah still a good strap for sure. Get the serial to clear up the actual date though. Also ask for an extract or at least get agreement that of you get one and there’s any issue that you get a refund.

3600 seems ok to me. Nothing cheap these days. I’d sell mine for about that... if I was selling.
