    Hello!

My Uncle gave me his watch to sell for him. It was purchased in 1974. Below are some pictures of it (pretty rough shape). I am just looking to get the reference number so I can list it correctly. Thank you!

    78 to mid 80’s

Might be a very late 145.022-76. But 145.022-78 or later 145.022/0022 based on dial.

Hands are beat up and it needs a service badly.

Drop S dial, serif DNN bezel.

Bracelet is a worn 1171 with 633 endlinks. Which makes me think it’s earlier in my estimation.

It might be earlier with a service dial but I’d doubt it. If so could go back to 69, either way the caseback inside will tell.

    Edit

If back to 69 then the case back was swapped and the serial number will tell.

Since you say the watch was purchased in 1974, I think it is most likely you'll find a '145022-71 ST' (or maybe '145022-74 ST') inside the caseback.

In both cases, dial and sweep second hand are wrong. It appears they were swapped in past.

It is a good idea to have the watch opened. But please don't try to do it yourself - you will probably damage the caseback.

Once you know what exactly you have there, you will find further information here:

You guys are the best! Thank you so much. This should give me enough to get started on figuring out what to do and what he wants to do.

Since you guys helped me out, here are some pics! Finally stopped by my watchmaker and had them open it up, turns out its a 145022-76. Checked the serial number and it looks like a 1979 manufactured Speedy. Looks like my uncles memory was off:

Thank you for the update! The dial is correct for the case ref. and the movement serial number as well.

    1977 production 145.022-76.

    Your reading old incorrect charts.

Another quick question. I know there are chips on the dial (between the 1 & 2 hour marks and near the 12 hour marker), but are these near the 9 - 11 hour chips on the dial or tension ring? It looks like the tension ring, but I don't know enough about the anatomy of the speedy's to say for sure. Btw, Polywatch is amazing! A quick 5 min polish made a huge difference.

Thank you so much! I gotta say, this Vintage sub-forum is probably the most responsive and helpful forum I've been on.
