This is up on the Bay, ending soon. Low feedback seller. I've sent him a few messages and he SEEMS genuine. The watch has B&P, and looks OK, but.. I've done a pretty extensive Google image search and, on every single one, the word "Date" on the second line is well to the right of the "X" of Rolex above it. This isn't. Alarm bells ringing. Advise appreciated guys...

Not an expert on Explorer but at least that dial looks fake to me. First of all you are right about the location of the "date" wording. Also have a look at the index marker at 9. There should be space between the minute marker and the long white index. I also believe that on the models with the red GMT needle, the arrow reaches into the minute markers. I'll check if I have some more verification books and will get back if I find something more. Based upon what I see here I would say 80% sure fake.... For sure there is far more knowledge present here at the OF.

The trick that i've always heard, but not sure how legit it is these days, is the magnification of the cyclops. A genuine rolex cyclops will magnify the date window to fill almost the entire cyclops eye, vs all aftermarket ones are of significantly less magnification. In this case it doesn't prove the watch is fake, but sure points to an aftermarket crystal at least. But that, along with the issue with the dial, would have me steering clear.

*edit*

I vote for definitely fake - look at the hand stack. The GMT hand should be in the middle, and on the OP's watch it is clearly on the bottom.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't even have noticed the GMT hand venturing into the minute track or the hand stack. I'm going to report this to the Bay before some poor guy gets stung. Great work fellas, much appreciated..

Rehaute looks like a Chinese food wok, the GMT hand triangle is too thin, the endlink fit is horrendous,

Aaaaand

Those maxi dial indicies!

Burn it, burn it with fire and run

These posts make me scared to purchase a Rolex, it’s really a question of buying the seller imo when it comes to Rolex. At least for a non expert (me).

The minute markers at Swiss Made are wrong. But worse, the 5 minute round indices stand out like dogs balls, to large.

I'd tend to agree, generally speaking. I wouldn't necessarily dismiss every low feedback seller out of hand, but it would certainly be recommended to do some serious examination of the pics, ask some questions of the seller, and definitely get the opinions of the sages on this forum. In this case I've dodged a bullet, but I did get the impression that the seller perhaps didn't even know that his watch was fake.

Yep. Didn't look at that as I was focused on the printing, but now you mention it...

The indices don't look right to me.

A lot of good fakes have a 2.5x cyclops now.

That’s one of the first things that caught my eye and quite a colorful description to boot, though other animals might also serve.

In my opinion, it is fake.... the cyclops, short GMT hand, the markers, quality of dial materials... I'm sure 99% it is a fake 😉

Fake!

Incidices and magnifying window give it away directly.
